Re: R6 rear shock conversion
I have good photos of the whole process done on my bike. If you want them just let me know.
Online info here http://www.scooterhelp.com/RZ_help/upgr ... sting.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And here http://eastcoastrzs.tripod.com/id2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The bushing were coming from McMaster-Carr, but they won't ship to Canada, at least not when I did mine, so you need an alternate source for the bushings. John at Economy Cycle has the bushings now. He can also supply the shock with bushings https://www.economycycle.com/product-ca ... uspension/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you do the mod you will need a longer side stand. I used one from a Ducati 1099. Worked perfectly.

Pretty sure Jon has a good description on his site too, Rob
Re: R6 rear shock conversion
I have an entire shock ready to drop in if you're interested.
The only change necessary on your bike would be to cut a piece of the shock mount so the reservoir clears. It's a semi circle the size of a 17mm chrome socket

There is also this post; viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13852" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
installing a 2015 R1 shock. Similar spring rate and arguably better shock, if only for the fact that it will be far newer. The length is similar to the R6 so I don't think it is necessary to shorten it as the OP did unless you can't touch flat footed with the stock shock. It would be the same effort to install as the R6 shock, unless you buy Justins already modded one. I've had an R6 shock on mine for 15 years and it still works well.

It took a buddy and me an afternoon. We both have two kids. Does that count?
Nice upgrade, even better with an FZ swing arm and rear wheel. You'll have a completely (comparatively) modern rear end after that!

Re: R6 rear shock conversion
Ok, got the bushings from EC and installed them in the shock. I modified the mount and installed the shock. The only issue is the lower collar is REALLY tight in the new lower bushings. The collar was rust free and is good condition. Anyone else have this issue, now I'm worried movement of the shock will be hampered as there is no way the collar can turn in the bushings.

Re: R6 rear shock conversion
I may need to get a bit turned off the bushings to make it right? My bike is a 1987 F2, may be there is a slight difference is the collar over the earlier bikes?

Re: R6 rear shock conversion
Rob i had same problem with mine,while you have the sanding drum out you can use it to trim up the chain guard after you do the cutout.

Re: R6 rear shock conversion
I have yet to cut out the chain guard. I feel a bit bad to cut it, but the new shock will be well worth it I'm sure.
