FZ 750 wheel in FZ 600 swingarm on RZ chassis

#1 Post by GPJeremy » Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:55 am

Hi everyone, MR. "Can't Leave Well Enough Alone Here"! and I'm at it again. I just ebayed an FZ 750 wheel that I'm going to try and stuff in my FZ 600 swingarm. To date I've been using an FJ 600 front fork and wheel and FZ 600 swingarm with an FJ 600 rear wheel on my bike. I really wanted to maintain the overall look of the bike while maximizing performance (from a late eighties standpoint). I know guys on this forum have run up to a 150 width tire on 18" rims in the FZ 600 swingarm, it's just a matter of fitting a rim with enough width to carry such a tire. The FZ 750 wheel is a 3.00 x 18" that carried a 130 section tire stock, I figure a 140 section tire should fit and give me the width I'm looking for.

Has anyone here tried this combo before?

The bearings are the same from 600 to 750, so my axle will work. Does anyone know if the FZ 750 hub is substantially wider than the 600?

The cush drive is identical from RZ to FJ to FZ 600, does anyone know if the cush drive changed from the little bikes to big bikes? I have a complete wheel coming, wondering if I'll need to find a sprocket to match the new wheel.

It seems that the width of the pivot tube is what keeps us from using the big bike swingarms in our little RZs and that there is plenty of width on the hub side of the FZ swingarm. I'm not missing anything critical here am I?

Like I said, I've already installed the FZ swingarm on my bike and trued A wheel onto that swingarm, so I know I can make it work, if its possible. Just wanting to know if its possible before I have the wheel in hand and spend more money on tires, sprockets etc.

Thanks again!

Yep, so an FZ 750 rear wheel is WWAAAAAYYYYYYY wider that the 600 rear wheel, no way in hell this thing will ever fit the FZ 600 swingarm. Live and learn.

Not spending too much. The beauty of upgrading with factory parts is, in most cases, it's the stuff other guys are getting rid of. The wheel was like $65 to the door and was damaged (hugely, maybe in shipping, probably not) so right now I'm hoping it'll only cost me shipping back to the seller or a refund from the shipper. Fingers crossed. Now I guess I'm back to the FZ 600 wheel and a slightly smaller (but bigger than stock :smt001) 120 section tire.

Still living and learning...

Wow...I had the same idea...running on a 18x3.00 wheel.
In my case, I bought a RD500 wheel, and I was trying to fit it on a FZ600 Swingarm too...

So, just to register, some differences, look at the pictures below:

I have a FZ600 rear wheel coming...and I´ll post its measures too...
It´s not 18x3.00 like RD500´s or FZ750´s...but it´s 18x2.75 , 0.25 wider than RD350´s :P

Definitely I would like to have some 17" rims wider, and same look...but the only way would be order a new creation, and I saw Randy trying to do it, in touch with Dymag. I wish it can be done.

So, when my "new" wheel arrives I´ll post the measures here.
I´m still planning to collect and post information about FZ600, FZ750, RD350YPVS and RD500 Swingarm width.

Any info contribution/aid would be welcome! =)

Or have Kosman weld a wider rim to an RZ/FZ hub/spoke base. Another option being to machine down the Cush/Sprocket hubs down and retread; then use the RZ inserts.

The RZV500 rear wheel is about 1.5 lbs lighter than the FZ600 rear wheel. The casting quality of the 500 is higher, additional lightening holes, tighter casting, and better detail.
Cheers!

Or like Kosman, there are other outfits that do the same thing.

http://www.custommetalspinning.com whom Kosman Ventures farmed out to. I don't know if Robert Steffano whom took over in 2010 is still running them- but the company with the provided url does the service.
These guys do too:
