Mikes XS emulators in stock RZ forks- who has done this?
Moderator: rztom
ya, thats what i read lastnight. but the problem is I have no rebound damping. so I wanna try leaving it in. in those instructions it also says to fill all the rebound holes and drill a new 2 mm hole for rebound. my rods doesnt have all the holes filled, just the small ones. the stock rebound is 4mm, which is bigger than what it should be. But I should still have some kind of rebound dampening, and there is none. so If I leave that inner rod in, I dont wanna drill into the bottom of it when I drill the new compression hole, which is what will happen if I drill it in the same spot as the modified rod

And do you have good rebound dampening? I just picked up some braising rods lastnight so I'm gonna fill in the stock 4 mm hole and drill the new 2 mm hole. Also I was looking at the check valve at the bottom of the inner fork tube. (which is more like a labrynth seal) does anyone know much about these? The inner sleeve can move around, so if the holes line up on the fork tube and inner sleeve it doesn't make any seal on the rebound stroke. I figure I should set the hole in the sleeve 180* from the hole in the fork tube but regardless where I set the holes I don't think it ever actually seals fully. I donno if anyone know what I'm talking about lol

From the instructions, you have to punch out the inner piece from the damper rod before drilling them. Look at this thread and tobster's post for the Race Tech instructions:

Not on mine Aaron as I'm still accumulating all the needed parts. It's also brutally hot down here so will wait 1-2 mths down the road to do this job.aaronmvrider wrote:any updates on forks....

I finished up mine no problem other than I would have opened up the top of the inner rebound tube a bit more, I only took enough material for a snug press fit and when installing springs if you knocked emulator out of the tube which I did a bear to press back in when down the hole. There is no need for press only require cover the tube which would be no problem I press fitted the smaller inner ridge on the emulator sure looked good! I went initial 2.5 turns on emulators and 15 wt oil. They feel great but I can't give a road report because my motor on the work bench so this update kinda worthless .

Ya I fixed what was wrong with mine, the person who installed my emulators didnt fill in all the rebound holes. so instead of having one 2mm hole there was two 4mm holes. I filled them in and drilled the 2mm hole and it was much better. I also have progressive springs with 10 mm preload spacers, I put 5 turns of preload on the emulator spring and am running 15w oil @ 155mm height. Much better feedback on the track

Has anyone tried the Mikes XS emulators yet? I'm still accumulating parts so no progress on my part yet. I'd be curious to know the turns out with the Mikes product.

Evans, mine are Mikes. I'm confident they will work fine once I get preload on emulators sorted. The design is solid and stupid simple so I don't see a problem there. Once sorted I will report.Evans Ward wrote:Has anyone tried the Mikes XS emulators yet? I'm still accumulating parts so no progress on my part yet. I have been down the same route, wondering if the less expensive "Mikes" are a good option. I too will wait for your input as to how they work as opposed to the very and way too expensive other brand....

Evans, take pictures man...I'm thinking my winter project this year will be to upgrade the 1973 RD350 (you know the magic bike) with RaceTech fork springs, those emulator gizmos, new rear shocks, BT45's and tighen up the swing arm with bronze bushings. The little bike should then disappear even faster
