Look like collets to me - they lock the valves in place, holding them captive in the spring cups. They are little half cones that are often a bugger to fit, but once fitted are held in place by the spring tension, very clever design really. You need a valve spring compressor to get em in and out, but you can make your own or buy one depending on the application etc.

That swingarm is far out....I know they had aluminum arms for a few years, but they weren't bent for the shock mount were they?
Been looking at aluminum arms for the SR....
I did ride it yesterday...got up to 40 degrees for a few hours, and the snow melted enough to get to the salt covered road.
Thing pulled hard and clean all the way through the RPM range, so the bigger carb, pipe and piston are working together perfectly.
Almost have the starting figured, but still takes about three kicks before it goes.

Here is your aluminum swing arms.

Mine is an old Fox swing arm made back in the day by Cal Fab who also sold them. Problem now is they are pretty rare and people think they are worth their weight in gold. Lol.

Nice project, you can still get the OEM side panels and plenty of other bits to restore that. Obviously has aftermarket pipe, but looks like OEM carb. 76 OEM pipes are hard to find, but there are aftermarkets (some looks like oem) for other years. Just make sure you find one with an undented tank if its alloy as they are tough to repair without opening them up, although in the USA the bikes are cheaper and there must have been many thousands of XTs and TTs sold there, so you can find used tanks in condition cheaper etc, its impossible here, but most bike stuff is as we all know LOL The Vintage Spoke also do / did a tank swap with restored ones for yours + money. Simple engines to work on and will run all day long, also low seat height, thin-ish tank and seat and small frame make remind me of the MT50 I had as a kid. I love these, such fun to mod and enjoy, I wont ever sell mine. When my ankle gets better I really must take some new pics of mine, full resto and modding story in my signature link to the 2smoked site Mark.
