New Acquisition 96 Aprilia RS250

Post by yzsurfer »

Just got this from a recently retired Air Force Pilot who was stationed all over Europe and the UK. Not sure why he did the rattle can paint job, but I can't complain. After cleaning the carbs it starts first kick. Waiting on a right side choke plunger to replace the one I broke and a new air filter. Also going to put some fresh rubber on it. She has about 8000 miles and I have all of the German titles and other paperwork plus it has a standard 17 digit VIN which helps. Always wanted a V-twin two stroke and got this one from a gal who I knew as a baby and recently friended on FB. She asked me if I was interested in her hubby's Aprilia RS and a neat Ducati 350 F3 which my brother got. Going to get a complete set of Chesterfield plastic after I pay a bill this month. Life's good.

The existing plastic is in great shape but the color..It's been in a storage unit for the last 6 years. Since I got it for $750 I'm going to splurge for a set of SS Jim Lomas GP pipes and the new plastic. Bike night will be fun once it warms up.

It is the RGV engine with a few Aprilia tweaks. All of the lights and stuff work except the horn. Waiting on the AF1 guys to open back up from the holidays to fill my order.

Went to the tag office and got a total cluster ****. First I need a Fed DOT inspection followed by an EPA then someone from Alabama DOT. I was cool and told her I had to start somewhere. About to get the existing plastic painted Yamaha yellow and will swap the tag from my yellow RZ350. It'll look good with my Colin Edwards Yellow Arai. Getting new rubber soon and hope to ride it soon. Fixed the carb and have a new air filter. Just need some warm weather.

Being old enough to remember being taught it, does your shirt say 'Dream in FORTRAN' ?

You have a good eye. I was supposed to take Fortran as one of my required classes and even bought the Compaq Visual Compiler to start getting familiar with it but they started pushing J++ on us and I'd just taken ANSI C, so I went that route. Stumbled on the shirt on ebay and thought it was cool. I get a lot of remarks from older people like me. I even had a couple of COBOL classes which is a dead giveaway.
