Nice. I had an FZR1000 back in the day. It was wicked fun on the autobahns.

Okay, 3500 in the back of a van isn't quite the same as riding it...

The fuel tank is now soaking in Evapo-Rust to try to get rid of some of the extensive internal surface rust. I think I have spent more on chemicals to clean out the tank than the tank is worth.

Make sure it's on something to catch the volume you put in. I did this at work on plastic cart and drilled a hole in it and put a bucket on the lower shelf just in case. Sure enough a few pinholes opened up and out it all came. Managed to solder up the holes without affecting the paint.

It's all done now. No leaks. Amazing amount of crap came out of it though. Probably still some loose material in there but it is clean enough for now. I will rinse it out again before it goes back into service.

Discovered that ca 99-01 Triumph 4-pot brake calipers bolt straight on to the FZ forks just the same as they do on the late RZ forks. Gonna try them with the FZ master cylinder but I have the Triumph m/c avail just in case. For the cost, these brakes are one of the best upgrades for our old Yams.

Several dyno runs showed the carburation was overly rich in the midrange even with the needle all the way down. Turns out the needle jets wear on these carbs and 48,000+ kms is enough to do them in. A new set of needle jets arrived today and should sort the jetting finally.

Just gotta figure out what I want to do with the exhaust and then I will declare the bike "done".
