You win, I pay nearly 5 times that for the RZ, a 15 year old Honda Odyssey and a 10 year old Land Rover. Good thing we've got clean driving records or it would be worse.

Good news, getting it up to speed.

Insurance: I'm paying about $1600/year for 3 RZ350s, a van, and 3 BMW cars, including an M3. I'm thinking that's not too bad.

Had a close call on the FZ saturday afternoon. Was having a fine old time zipping down the highway back home. Was doing about 180 km/hr when I changed lanes and felt an odd sort of looseness in the bike that I hadn't felt before.

I rolled the throttle off and leaned gently into the fast sweeper that goes off the highway towards my house when the bike wallowed in a bike way three or four time. WHOAH, thats not right. Stopped at the light I looked back at the tire to discover it was flat. I limped the last kilometre home where I was able to have a close look at the tire.

The rubber valve stem had sheared completely off right at the rim. So at something like 110 mph that caused an instant flat tire. Thankfully this was not on the front or I think this story might have an altogether different ending.

Both wheels are going in to the shop to receive brand new valve stems. Not gonna take the chance with the front one.

This is apparently the problem with old bikes ..... they have old parts.

I do not like rubber valve stems for that very reason. Good to hear you caught it in time to avoid catastrophe.

I've got a feeling you're going to replace every hose, seal, gasket, rubber bit on your bike. Time just loves to eat rubber.

On my XV920R project I spent about $1,000 on little nit-noid parts to bring it up todate.

I already ordered a replacement fuel line cause it has developed a fuel drip die to old hard lines.

Just before the flat occurred, I went past a guy on a modern FZ1. He pulled up beside me and had a good look at the 30 year old grandfather to his bike that had just blasted past. Was a nice moment.

Peter you might want to check the rear tire side wall ect for damage since you had to ride some distance flat, just a precaution.

It was only a couple of kms and at high speed the centrifugal force helps keep the tire roundish. At most I only rolled about 1 km on a fully flat tire. It was fairly hot when I checked it but there is no bluing or obvious melted or softened rubber. It was no hotter than a typical race tire gets. So I think it will be ok.

Wheels are back on, both with new valve stems. Guy at the shop said the front one was not long for this world, so glad to have that fixed.

Next task is to see if I can figure out where the fuel is leaking from and try to stop that while I wait for the replacement fuel line to arrive.

New fuel line is installed and I added a quick detach to the line so the tank can be more easily removed to access airbox and jetting.

New clutch and springs are also installed. So much nicer to ride now that the clutch doesn't spin wildly at 8,000 rpm. ;)

This bike def likes to go at a good speed. It is impressively stable at 200 kms/hr and I have found I don't need to gear down when accelerating through traffic. The midrange isn't monster but it is certainly enough.

I want to put the FZ up against an RZ500 and see how the two compare. The FZ def has more peak power than the RZ but it is considerably heavier. I suspect the RZ may accelerate a bit faster but the FZ is gonna out grunt it on the top end.

I went for a ride on Peter's FZ 2 days ago and he took out my RZ. The FZ is very different but also a fun horse to ride. Thanks for the retro ride Peter. It was fun.

Currently the bike is in the shop to have the jetting sorted. It is just easier to do this with a dyno. The guess we took on the mains was good so now it is just to try to dial out that annoying midrange stumble.

The original fuel tank is currently soaking half full of acetone. This seems to be working but it is a bit slow and turns out acetone is horribly expensive. $25 for 4 litres. So far I have used 6 litres but it is gonna require another 6 litre soak to get the inside really clean. The amount of white crud and crap that has come out of that tank is impressive.

Phhht not even. I've ridden the FZ a bunch but with 4 street bikes it's difficult to put huge miles on any one.

If you would like to feel what fast low end acceleration is like you should take out my GSXR1100 in the spring...Done up motor, big flatslides, straight exhaust, its a beast.
