85 FZ750

Post by Hooligan »

OK, not a custom but it is a dirty 4-stroke and so should prob not be in the same forum sections as the 2-strokes. :smt003 I don't actually have my hands on it yet but it is paid for and Rory will be picking it up for me on his way back to Alberta.

The info I have is: Bike has been owned by the guy I purchased it off for 24 years. He last rode it in 2013, when it also got new tires. 48,000 kms and it has apparently never been dropped. It sounds like the carbs need a good cleaning a new battery will be required.

I started riding in 85-86 and have lusted after one of these things ever since. Just never got a chance to own one. I had the cash lying around, the price was right and this one seems to be about as minty as I am ever going to find so it felt like a good time to pick up another vintage 80's Yam. :smt003

Nice bike, seems to be in excellent shape, for sure the carbs will have to be serviced, you will enjoy it. The genesis 20 valve engine is very smooth with little or no vibration when revved high. I enjoyed mine and almost sorry I sold it because I now open to collect any vintage 80's Yamaha bikes 2 and 4 strokes.

I don't think there are too many FZs in this kind of shape, still sporting the OEM exhaust.

I'm not really looking forward to tearing apart 4 carbs but hopefully it will just be a case of cleaning them up and not have to replace too many internal parts.

I've never heard of an FZ1000. I had an '89 FZR 1000 EXUP when I was stationed in Germany.

I have good memories of the EXUP but no desire to own one again. I always thought the FZ looked classy and gorgeous and it was the first bike I lusted after when I started riding. It was the hot girl I wanted but couldn't have. :)

Beautiful! FZ750's I think have a unique appearance - try and find another bike that looks similar. I hope you will keep it in top shape.

At my last job there was a guy with one of those, owned since nearly new, beautiful bike. You didn't buy it from a Brit called Frank by any chance?

Very nice Peter, I want one of those as well.

I can't wait for the modern (85 style) 750 showdown :smt035

Hooligan, I am in your debt. The FZ paid a visit to my house in the back of a white van last night. Had I known that it was available within 15 minutes of me for that price it would have caused me some considerable stress. I think you'll be pleased with it.

Thanks. It's always a bit of a crap shoot buying a bike over the Internet. It's good to hear that it looks as good as the Kijiji pics suggested it to be. Just hope it is mechanically sound. Apparently the guy had owned it for 24 years which I think bodes well.

Now if I can just get Rory to stop driving all over ON with my bike and bring it home to me. :).

At the Ponoka Rally, Solo found a nice stash of mid 80's magazines for sale. Interestingly there were two copies of the 1985 Cycle World GSXR vs FZ road test. So he got one for his GSXR and I got one for my FZ. :smt023

There was also a "Whats New for 85" issue.

And I couldn't leave this one behind. :smt003

I also found a Cycle Canada with a complete RZ500 review and test .... but that one went to vonzipper.
