I've got my restoration down mechanically. Yesterday, I finally got my seat lock to match my keys. Next I want to tackle the tool kit. My bike is missing the OEM tool kit. They are hard to find, but I might be able to piece one together from other Yamaha vintage tool kits from the same era. This is not about simply carrying tools, but more about getting the restoration closer to factory original. Can someone list the contents of the 1984 US RZ350 tool kit or better yet, post a picture.

Thanks.

- Walt

This is a strart for you, I had to piece together one of mine. The vinyl case is pretty generic on the Yamaha kit

Those are some of the ones I was looking for. Remember, I'd trying to replicate the original part for part.

Thanks for the pics. I bought a set of tools from forum member "Bald_Anthony". He contacted me prior to you posting your pics above and figured they were the most complete set available for sale and true to his words they were. He even had the original bag and it matches the one you have pictured. It just has two small holes worn thru which one might expect after 40+years. He also shipped them to me right away and didn't gouge me on price.

They match your sets pictured above except:

1) The screwdriver handle/socket doesn't have the black rubber cap on the end. What is that for?

2) Anthony's set had the additional items shown in my pic linked below. The band was used to cinch the bag closed. Perhaps Anthony or some other previous owner threw them in there or is it possible that 1984 and 1985 had slightly different tool kits? I suspect it is the former as the screw driver handle and bit seem redundant. Does anyone know?

BA is a great guy. Nice to hear that he hooked you up.

I think the black cap on the handle was just to protect your hand.

The original bag was wrapped with a white shoestring.

Unsure what that black band you have would be for.

Glad though you found a complete kit.

madgoat,

Thanks for the info. I can complete my kit on a shoe-string budget. :)

The black band holds the toolkit to the fender tray...

You are speaking about the band with the metal loops at the end. I am referring to the endless loop in my pic.
