My Dumbass

#1 Post by lokie21 » Sun Jun 03, 2018 3:39 pm

Hello all, my dumb ass left the fuel petcock in the prime position all night long and as you can guess everything is filled with fuel. i also may have compounded the problem because i didn't realize it until i started the bike and revved it up a few times shooting fuel out the exhaust. My question is what do i do now? What oil do i need?Do i blow out cylinders Take off exhaust. I am so sickened by my mistake and i hope i didn`t hurt anything by starting it up. all help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you

If it was going to hydraulic lock it would have done it by now. If it started and runs ok then you will be fine, the oil injection will be lubricating things,. Excess in pipes will have evaporated by now, any excess in the crankcase will get pumped out. Can't have been much there and it will get evacuated pretty quick.

Go for a ride.

Check your tranny oil. If it's contaminated, change it. You never know where that stuff will go.

If the fuel in the crankcase is getting into the trans you gots other problems.

That would depend how it got there. The hydro lock, as mentioned before is the main concern.

Someone would need to pour it in the tranny to get it there. A fairly involved fault path to follow.

You obviously have not seen everything. You'd like to think, that because the two are not linked, that it would be impossible...or that if they were leaking the other problems would have exposed themselves. As I said before, you never know where a crankcase full of fuel will get to.

The only way for fuel to get into the gearbox oil is through a failed right crank seal. If fuel does get into the gearbox through a failed right crank seal you'll know it because it will piss out of the gearbox vent and all over your shop floor. Been there, done that.

This. The fuel should not get into the transmission.

One thing you might want to replace is the float needle valves.
