OD of bar for threading with dies?

#1 Post by JonW » Tue Nov 03, 2015 1:22 am

Does anyone have a link to chart for metric threading? I only really need the bar OD for M10 x 1.0 but I would love to find a chart for them all, Ive googled but havent found one, only for tap holes. :smt012

If you are cutting a thread with a die M10 will be 10 mm dia bar stock threaded. The confusion arises with rolled threads which start with a smaller diameter. The threads are formed by moving material making the threads stand up where a die cuts material away to form the threads. Thread rolling is the preferred mass production method.
Hope this helps.

Thats correct. OD is 10mm but if was female thread you'd subtract the pitch to get your drill size.
