The JB and other 2 part epoxy repair kits are the way to go. Extremely strong. I prefer the more liquid product and usually use plastic grid material to add strength. Find it much better than any heat welding product,

The same question came up about a year ago and John dubya suggested Testors liquid plastic cement for model aeroplanes.

The best stuff is really the products designed for the job, I have tried many of them with various rates of success but also various plastic cements including plumbing stuff. I have some Wurth to try next, just havent had a chance to try it yet, but I will as a friend sent me some. I usually weld with a soldering iron and bits of old fairing and that works well.

I have also added a small piece of model airplane fiberglass cloth to the mix to strengthen it as well. The plastic glue makes a good resin. Works great on the backside of side cover.

I have been through quite a number of these products and the JB weld/Permatex plastic welder are better than the solder iron trick and possibly better than the actual plastic welder. The solder iron WILL give you extremely brittle plastic that WILL crack like fiberglass when put under any sort of strain after some time. The plastic welder also works to combine fiberglass patches with the original fabric. There is specific plastic mesh sold that is a better bet than adding fiber cloth to the mix.
