Lift question
I have one of those $60 motorcycle lifts from Harbor Freight, kinda like a scissor lift. I was wondering if it is ok to put it under the bike, and lift it, without taking the pipes off? Or will the weight of the bike crush, or dent, the pipes? Thanks.
Re: Lift question
Do not
Re: Lift question
Put some wood or rubber on the lift, it'll be fine.

Re: Lift question
I used a milk crate for years on my 1st RZ, WAYyyy back when,this is from 1986. You should be just fine, padded as suggested above. NOTE** If you have thin walled ultra lightweight pipes, like Lomas or equivilant they will probably dent. Pipes in pic were Toomeys and held up okay. Be careful of your chin fairing as well.

I've got a set of dented Toomey pipes to prove this is a bad idea.Juicebox wrote:I have one of those $60 motorcycle lifts from Harbor Freight, kinda like a scissor lift. Re: Lift question
I agree, its not ideal...lol. Its far better to just use front & rear paddock stands. When your 18-19 years old..things like "milk crates" seem like a good idea.
I never damaged the bike in any way & probably stood the bike on that crate 200 times, I often had no sidestand.
But the potential is there to damage things..so if your going to do it pad it! But your better off buying a stand for the front & rear.

Re: Lift question
I was fed of those workarounds and build a complete platform following this manual:
https://www.lkw-kelkheim.de/downloads/f ... uehne.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(Maybe it was triggered by a freshly purchased TIG welder and being eager to start the first welding project)
This was the build-thread:

Note that you need to register and log in to see the pics.
