New Rz owner

#1 Post by mc84721 » Sat Nov 12, 2016 6:57 pm

Hi all, I'm from upstate ny. Not new to 2 strokes, or the rz motor. Just picked up an '88 in ontario, where my girlfriend lives. I traded a honda 250r for it and some cash. This is my first street bike I plan to keep. I do street ride now on a honda xr650r dualsport.

Are there any good oem yamaha websites that have the 88' listed? The US websites only mention the '84-85.Image

Rubber parts:

Some RZ bits:

Postage is a killer but the quality is there on the 2nd site more so.
You purchased the bike off Ontario Kijiji?

You could have a look at Yamaha-motor.ca. You will find pretty much everything for the 88 on there if you are staying stock and want OEM parts. I also have a 88. Adam @ Kelly's Cycle in Hamilton was also a really big help. Kelly's Cycle is a Yam dealer and their parts guys are really helpful.
After that, it is all aftermarket. [emoji106]

Yambits in the UK is an excellent source. Shipping is very reasonable.

Boats.net has a lot of parts but not everything.
Ronayers IIRC has some RZ parts listing.

Do some reading around and you'll find that many many of the 83-85 us bike parts fit your bike, you just need to be aware of what is what and you'll be fine. That skill up will save you time, money and effort in the long run, but will take time. Worth it on a bike you'll keep tho :)

Here's an update guys. Installed a new battery, fuse box, straightened out wiring and cleaned carbs. Fairings are damaged here and there but it's all together. Everything works electrically, starts easy and seems to run good.

It's quite the fast little bike. My plan is to ride it for a year or 2 while I finish other projects then restore it. Will probably add Toomey's, Reed's etc.

The bike came from deseronto, near napanee Ont. In spring of 2016. Girlfriends neighbor saw it on Kijiji, snagged it and added it to his collection. He wasn't sure what to do with it, and ended up trading a Honda 250r for it with some cash.

Good start if you didn't pay too much. Parts fiche is here;

http://www.yamaha-motor.ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , under the drop down 'Accessories and Apparel' at the top is 'Parts Catalogue'

Thanks, I finally got the parts page to work. It came in handy for the few mystery parts that I couldn't quite figure out where they went. I paid $1200 USD for it, which I thought was pretty fair.

Those prices are very expensive! I just bought a bunch of parts for my bike at the Yammy dealer. Rear reflector was $9, they are asking 9 pounds. Bought a master cylinder for my F2 and paid less in Canadian dollars than they are asking in pounds. The end caps I bought I only paid 2 dollars less than what they are asking. And when I ordered my parts I found out that parts that were last year discontinued are back in stock! :smt023

Bike was found on Kijiji by my girlfriends neighbor, who has a 85', and 90' RZ. He bought it for $800 I think, then I swapped a Honda 250r for the RZ and $1300. Here's the latest addition.Image

I wasn't saying you paid too much for your bike, I was referring to the link posted and the prices of the parts. That was a good price you paid! I would definitely buy it at that price.
