No battery or dead battery which is worse.

#1 Post by seahorse » Sat Apr 02, 2016 8:55 pm

I have three running bikes
Lc 350
Lc 421 Aprillia suspended rocket ship
And rz350
All are running and all get ridden regularly.

My Lc battery has died and no longer holds a charge. The reason it has died is age. The charging system on the LC is fine as it charges the other batteries and holds them charged overnight.
How critical is it to replace the old Lc 350 battery, am I potentially damaging the electrical system ?
I mainly use the LC for shop runs, chasing Granny's and Overtaking Harley's.
Just so we are reading off the same page I wouldn't be asking if it was the RZ as PVs come into play.

Thank-you in advance
Seahorse.

As the LC does not have devices connected to the bat that I'dare to call electronic you don't need to worry.
Either use:
- big capacitor as a battery eliminatior (culprit: no lights if you break down at night on a 6 lane interstate)
- any standard lead accumulator
- maintenance free gel (AGM) lead accumulator
- LiFePo with incl. BCM (I'm using those both in my road and my race bike due to the very low weight)

I would not run completely without bat or capacitor as it smoothens out voltage peaks.

BTW: Same applies to the YPVS models.

Thank-you MK for the reply.
I will run with the dead battery for now, and get a newy at my earliest convenience.
Kind regards

Forgive my ignorance but you said if it was your rz350 you wouldn't be asking these questions..... I have an rz500 and wrote it with a dead battery and it died on Me on the freeway what have I damaged?

I would suspect a stator failure but, do you have any gas in it?
Red/White US '84, Spec II pipes, Y-boot w/K&N, Fox Shock, Mikuni carbs?

I rode my LC with no battery for 5 years, can't do that on an RZ, it needs the battery. (A good one).
