Stator Grommet Installation

#1 Post by alexk417 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 12:24 pm

Dove into cleaning this weekend and noticed that the Stator Grommet on our 1984 RZ350 has torn. I'm OCD and can't have this nor do I want to risk water getting in there.

Went ahead and ordered a replacement from HVC - http://www.hvccycle.net/yamaha-rd-r5-rz ... hvc200152/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any tips on installing this thing? I haven't received to the part to check out the rubber, but maybe a turkey baster and a lot of lube to slide over the plugs? :smt003 I really don't want to remove the plugs...

You should be able to get a tiny flat screwdriver in the plug and push bag the spur on the spade clip for each wire. Slip them through the grommet and reattach to the plug!

Lol there was a thread about this cple mnths ago. Have done 2 of these & as Jon said,you have to remove the plug.
But apparently there is a tool you can buy to help remove the prongs.

Is the tool really necessary? I found an tiny electronics screwdriver worked fine. I think it had a 1.0mm or 1.2mm tip.

you can do it with pins even, but... the tool makes it easier on your hands and means it takes less time...

Does anyone know the part number for this electrical connector pin extraction tool from Lisle? I checked amazon and there are several different tools available without specifications as to what size pins that it fits or removes? I'm trying to replace the stator and can's seem to get the pins out of the factory plug connections.

Thanks
