RZ Battery Seems to be Dying

#1 Post by Hooligan » Tue Jun 14, 2016 1:49 am

Put a new battery in the RZ last year. Over the winter I noticed it went dead, like so dead my battery tender wouldn't touch it. I used a sophisticated battery charger to bring it back. It seemed OK for the last few months but now has gone bad again.

Thoughts?

How is the battery stored in the winter? Is it on the battery tender? Is it inside in a garage or outside?

How many volts is your voltage regulator putting out at idle and at few thousand RPM?

Once depleted, you'll only get a short life out of it, if you get it to come back at all. Daily use is the best medicine for a battery, and your bike,

I found leaving them unused in the garage at sub-zero temps kills them faster too.

More info on this:

Got the battery to recharge fine. Left bike sitting for a couple weeks and battery went dead again. Recharged battery and went for 100 km ride. Battery close to dead at end of the ride. Annoyed!

Charging system isn't working. Your battery was providing the power for the lights the entire time, hence the battery being almost dead.

Throw an ohm reader on there and measure your outputs to triple check.
