Rd350 OEM Blinkers

#1 Post by legoman » Thu Jul 21, 2016 12:34 pm

Hey Guys,

I experienced my first crash a week or so ago. I'm fine, bike is fine. High side crash low speed... noob jitters.

Anyways no major damage...other then my blinkers. I snapped off the metal studs inside the blinker housing. My question is are these Blinkers salvageable? Anyone have any luck removing the studs?

Back in the day I when I rode my RD350 everywhere I snapped off a few turn signals like that. Those hollow threaded studs were made intentionally weak so they would break before the signal. You should be able to remove the broken stud with a screw extractor once you get the wire out of the way. If you remove the lens you can then remove the light socket, and then pull the wire out a bit so you can use the screw extractor. The hard part of fixing the signal is going to be finding a replacement hollow stud. I checked an online parts source and they don't appear to be available anymore. You might find a used or NOS one on ebay.

Nice she is currently my only form of transport as well. I followed your advice I slammed some pliers into the stud and then twisted them out. I managed to grab one OEM blinker from a motorcycle shop for 20cad. I did find some studs on ebay for like 20 bucks however, I think I'll do better to just find another OEM blinker.

The build quality on these old blinkers is amazing... I initially though the housing was plastic but it is casted aluminum they certainly don't make them like they used to. Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated. :)
