Same here, but I have my manual toggle switch on the correct side, the right side.

The bike is much faster this way. :smt040

BTW, we have been extremely hot here lately. On my normal every weekend "isle of mines" rides the fan stays on for the whole ride. It works extremely well.

LOL...."isle of mines" is a great name for it... :smt023 :smt003

don't listen to Ken, He hasn't a clue what he is talking about.... :smt033

Put the switch on the left, Then you don't need to let go the throttle while fumbling around trying to switch the fan on.... :smt021

Has anyone used that plug and play dirt bike fan with the thermostat? Sounds like an easy fix with no switches.

If you're talking about the Trail Tech setup, yes I got the universal kit for my bike. I have not installed it yet, still running the R6 fan on a handlebar mounted switch.
I have to make a mounting bracket for the controller unit so I can see the temp readout on my dash. I'll post pics when I do.

Does anyone have the size specs in the r6 fan you are running ?

I was thinking about running a low profile SPAL with a manual switch from trailtech.

I want to run a temp switch , but I hate those probes that stab into the radiator .

Any other options ? Is there a way to tie into the temp switch on the head ?

Thanks

I'm curious if you guys were having overheating problems before installing fans, or do you ride in traffic a lot? The only time my temp gauge gets near the top is in stop and go traffic (very rare), or waiting at a rail crossing for a long train, in which case I just shut the bike off. Granted there aren't many days up here where I'm riding in temps over 85F, and I have an oversized rad and 50C thermostat, but I never had trouble with the stock cooling system either. I wouldn't have thought a fan was doing much once you got over 20mph, it'll run if the switch tells it to, but is it actually helping? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just curious how much value it has outside of slow city driving on a hot day.

Same as tacky above. I can't stand watching the temperature gauge go up so high. :smt010 And the manual switch works just fine for me. Keep it simple. I like to be able to turn it on whenever I want to.

Russ, when I am racing (well, for me anyway :smt002 ) on the Isle of Mines on a hot day, going uphill, flogging the engine, the temperature gauge has a tendency to get up into the three-quarter and above area. I didn't think running the R6 fan while moving at speed would do much. But it does. It keeps the gauge at around that one half mark where I would prefer to see it, maybe a little above on a superhot day.

And when I am done and back in town/stoplights/traffic, it's really unbelievable how well that fan works.

Maybe someday I will get back to building some of my hoard of "spare" bikes :smt009 , two of which have the oversize aluminum radiators installed. The next one to hit the road also has the sled thermostat kit with the spacer I purchased from one of our members a while back. It will be interesting to see how that setup works.

Interesting, I would not have guessed that these things were so marginal on cooling, maybe they designed them for the Canadian market [smilie=cold.gif] :smt003 . It's been several decades since I was in SoCal, but both heat and traffic seem to be a way of life, good thing there is an effective work around.

Nice up here in Canada. I have been running all this year with no gauges what so ever. Lots of red line riding. Stock rad, no issues. Thanks Yamaha.

I haven't had any issues down here

I have stock radiator, stock water impeller 1mm o/size on the bores running premix and it gets to 40c here, its not often we ride in the 40's its just too darn hot

The gauge gets up to 1/2 way and that's high speed (110km/h) running for about 60kms at a time

Or you could run it without a thermostat , my LC don't have one and the needle is always in the middle of the meter .
