Re: Airtech 500 fairing help needed
I just spring clamped the rear edges of the windshield to the inside of the fairing, adjusted it to be centered, then drilled and screwed the front of the windshield to the fairing. Then worked my way back to the clamps alternating sides drilling and fastening as I went.
You may have to mess around a bit where the frame attaches and slide the windshield between the frame and the fairing. If that's the case just drill through there and use the same bolts that secure the fairing to the frame.

Did essentially the same as John, used 8 bolts and started at the front. Depending on what you are running for gauge cluster you may have interference issues. I am not running a speedo at this point. The windshield did not fit amazingly but none of the kit really did.

Re: Airtech 500 fairing help needed
I used stainless button head 6mm screws, nylon washers on both sides, lock washers and nuts.
Don't use the nylock type nuts, they often seize up and you have to zip cut them off.
I mounted mine on a 1981 rd350lc, it took a lot of messing around to fit it. Had to modify the mounts for the speedo and tach to lower them and move them backwards a bit. Won't fit without clip ons.
It was a real beast actually, took about 15 hours to modify and fabricate everything. It really tried my patience.

15 hours sounds like a breeze! This was much of a winter for me but many other changes were made.
I on the other hand WOULD use those plastic/rubber nuts. They have a bit of 'give' before anything cracks and when dealing with the plexi windscreen and glass fairing any help is worthwhile. Plus they will slowly pull things straight which allows you to be slightly off drilling holes.

Trying to figure out how to upload a photo for you, any tutorials out there?
If I try to do it as an attachment it won't allow it as it's too big.

Re: Airtech 500 fairing help needed
Sometimes you just gotta wing it and get er done.
Mine turned out fine, just spring clamp, adjust, point your toes and dive on in.
Get the first screw in the front center and everything else is easy.
I drilled slightly over size and used nylon washers on both sides to allow a little flex/wiggle room. Haven't had much experience with the rubber compression nuts you have, but quite sure they'll work fine. The only reason I would shy away from them on initial installation is that they require quite a large hole and if you mess up a bit it will take some doing to fix the cosmetics.
Using the smaller holes to set location with temporary bolts until you're happy with it and then drilling to accommodate the rubber nuts may be the way to proceed.
I was happy with how my effort turned out, just using the hardware mentioned.

LOL...I Know what you mean, boy do I ever!p51mustang wrote:I called Airtech they where not much help
I as well think that might help with future stress cracking of gelcoat , windscreen and fiberglassp51mustang wrote:john do you think the pro bolt mite work Thanks Evan
Yes, Its certainlly a "Catch 22" its the only offering, and not very good quality as others, but we have to buy it...lol the spring clamp works great ( Low tension ones!!!) also consider a acrylic drill bit to help reduce gelcoat or windsheild splintering, but you can go very slow with a standard and a pilot hole 1st. Here is a helpful video: https://bikescreen.com/pages/gp-installation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;p51mustang wrote: I no they are cheep and poorly made but its the onely one on the market
Also the Airtech website has some decent close up photos of the windshield here: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/yamaz/YZR350.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
" ****IF NO ONE HAS REQUESTED IT YET****, I have a friend w a Gamma project and he sure could use that upper..He'd gladly $ pay $ for your shipping & any time on it if that is all you require. If so either PM me or post your contact info, Shipping would be to Camarillo Calif..."Is it the standard vj22 upper?"p51mustang wrote: I have a rgv vj22 TYGA performance fairing bran new les the head light for free no anyone that wants it let me no they will have to pay for the shipping.

Re: Airtech 500 fairing help needed
So I was looking at the pic and curious if the upper is already bolted to the black fairing bracket? This would be your first step.
It all fits fairly tightly and I suspect I will end up with stress cracks long term on mine. There is definitely a gap between the fairing and the windshield on my kit as the angles just didn't all line up.
The kit is great if you take it for race plastic which is what they sell it as but for street use it definitely leaves more to be wanted.
I was also surprised at how large the bike looks with the fairing on it...
