Restoring vinyl seat cover RD/RZ

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Sun Dec 04, 2016 6:09 pm

Found an RD seat with an original cover in not bad shape - one 3mm devit at the rear fill with vinyl repair kit. The remainder of the seat was a hard as a carboard - zero suppleness. Learnt that anhydre based lanoline (without H2O) is a great way to restore the cover's suppleness. Cost $12 for 454gm. Used a old cotton tee shirt for application three time. Amazing stuff. 1st photo press with 3 finger - didn't even dent. 2nd shot - well, speaks for itself. Save your covers if in have decent shape.

I actually received this tidbit of resto-info from a body shop that repairs vessel (sun baked speedboats) vinyl seats. Saw what they were up to and thought bet ya it would work on my RD seat. Obtained the lanoline from a local pharmacy. The jar I purchased would probably do 30 seats. I don't think there are 30 RD's in the province I live but there you have it.
