Surely Jon you or ur mates have access to a vintage unmolested 350/250 white tank and a spectrograph? Probably get a reading that best matches the paint products available in Oz, nes pa? Save ya time waiting for me anyway. Currently dealing with Napa Automotive who do not carry paint samples - you have to buy a pint and thats a lot of tester. I'm almost thinking I should head down to Canadian Tire (yikes) and eye ball the closest thing available.

I do know of one guy who has a tank with original paint, but its not nos or anything. The problem in Aus is that everything here gets used to death. I reckon we have the bikes with the highest milage. Its not uncommon to see LCs with 50k+ and ive seen a few speedometers with 80 and 90+ kms.This means that there isnt much in the way of NOS body parts down here and those that have been used have been used hard and often have spent time in our vicious sun, but I can ask him to drop his in when he has time after giving it a polish up :)

One thing I do find bizarre is that each of the scanners is saying a different colour makeup, how can that be?

I was disappointed with the second result as it only added more confusion to the investigation. The reason for the difference - UV rays I suspect. The second read was obtained from the lower side/flank of tank and not at the first spot unfortunately. This occurred cause the gent operating the spectrograph could not get a reading in the first spot choosen even though the spectrogaph appeared to be the same model. Other customers were entering the shop, the reading was free, so the pressure was on to get it done. Old English white was the result which makes sense if there was perhaps a bit a yellowing (uv) involved in the 2nd reading. Back to square one. The only white RD I know of nearby is 200kms away and he repainted his bike non-OEM white. You know how I dealt with finding a original tool kit. I'm hoping it will not take as long. Feeling snookered and suspect I'm not the only one.

Sadly you're at the point that Ive been in for a while with this, ie the same rut LOL! As with my toolkit search I have this on a slow burn and was researching from the various forums in the hope of a definitive result as the paint shops are all a bit far from me, apart from one which previously offered to mix me a match to one of my KTM panels, when I asked what percentage the match might be to the existing paint the guy said '60%...', I gave him the WTF?! look and have never been back lol

In my notes Ive got these gems (from the forums):

- Bought some paint from RS Bike Paint http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on the receipt its listed as 7994 Clean White if that's any help

- I've hot a car painter to do a couple of ypvs body sets for me in straight white off the mixing station. Basically it's the white with no tints added URKI 900 is the code

- Unfortunately diamond white though a match for the lc clean white is not the pearl that silky white on the f2 is

- This thread was like this one LOL : http://rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/3 ... te-dilemma" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <-- this one talks about Ford Diamond White

- http://www.xt500.co/1976-xt500-clean-wh ... t1537.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <-- more Ford diamond white

- yamaha clean white is the colour your looking for. if your going to use a similar car colour opel/vauxhall casalanca white isnt miles off and its a damn sight closer match than good old ford diamond white which commonly used its a dirty creamy white seen on most transits etc (depending on varient/manafacter)..

- ive just been to my local paint shop and managed to get yamaha white as they didnt have clean white diamond white didnt look as bright as this white i got and it looks really bright on bike if it helps reference nos on tin are yam m/cycles 1000m white and underneath that 1 it says 0-9-0285-1 hope this helps mate as i find it perfect

- Diamond White is a great colour to use, as per the link from the above. I've used it on other bikes where White is required too. It's a good bright white without being too brilliant, if you follow what I mean

- http://www.2strokeworld.com/forum/index ... pic=1365.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Im thinking the Ford Diamond white from the early 80s is probably the go? I just wonder if ford used the same colour in EU/UK, Aus and USA/Canada markets in those years or if they were market independent. If they were then you could be painting a totally different colour to what other people in another market used :/

Figured this weekend I was probably going to go past one of the auto shops here that does paint mixing from codes and should just get a can of Ford Diamond White, I mean, we are sure to have that colour here since it was so popular everywhere else...

Hmm... seems from this list that Ford offered no whites at all in the early 80s here!

http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/co ... ompany_A-L" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On a further note: This is an interesting site... http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedi ... rd&rows=50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It shows that while the name stayed the same the colour code changed on the Fiesta from 79 to 80 :(

I'll use the words 'this amused me', but really it didnt... even the Fiesta XR2 boys who want to paint their cars the original Diamond White colour have trouble:

https://passionford.com/forum/general-c ... lours.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The more you look at ford paints the more you see that Diamond white codes are some kind of B#, ie B3 coded.

http://www.projectbobcat.com/guides/for ... aint-codes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I found that it means this:

- It's B, then for an 81 car it's B1, 82 car it's B2, 83 car B3 etc etc.... Special Black is A, an 81 car is A1, my 89 is A9, etc etc.
- Just to ilustrate how the system works, hope that helps. If you ask for "diamond white" at a paint place they'll do you B1, the 81 shade.

and someone else in the same thread said:
- "Arctic white" is super bright next to diamond white which is kinda yellowy when sat side by side.

A 1982 or 1983 Fiesta XR2 (I would say B2 or B3 colour code), quite muted and yes I would say more like the LC colour:

Image

from here (some more pics there): http://www.performance-car-guide.co.uk/ ... a-xr2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Infuriatingly if you go back to the Aussie list of ford colours B2 is a green from a Focus, there is no B3, there are 4 B4s and none of them are white... sigh....

Doing some research on the GM Casablanca White...

Seems again there are several, all pre 2002 from what i can tell and on all sorts of vehicles :

GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE 474/10U/J065/10L 1991-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE J065/10L/474/10U 1991-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE 590F/10L 2001-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE L474/F94A 1991-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE 10L [590F] 2001-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE 10L/474/10U/J065 1991-SOLID
GENERAL MOTORS HOLDEN CASABLANCA WHITE 10U/J065/10L/474 1991-SOLID

It does seem that generically when spoken of online the Casablanca White is the 10L listing and interestingly its said that Glacier and Casablanca are the same colour...
-glacier white is the vauxhall name, casablanca is the opel name.

EARLY Examples form the 70s:

(probably not a great picture but...)
Image

and
Image

and later they used it in the 90s on Corsa / Barina and Astra etc.

Image

Whats interesting is that these images of the mirror covers are very like a bike tank, giving a good idea of the colour:
(from here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CONDITION-GLAC ... B018MAYBF4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
Image
(ok thats a big pic, but you need it to see what were looking for here)

and another (very pics in the sun, but its in the uk of course lol) on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Astr ... 4d54a9eeff" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

all found from here: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=glac ... K3DV9LI6fM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;:

My Father in Law had a Commodore in what i believe was the 10L/474/10U/J065 colour, and IIRC it absolutely wasnt an overly light bright white, as he found when buying a touchup paint and just picked one form the shelf (those were the days you could buy paint off those huge racks of pre mixed colours) lol.

Do you have the code for that match? or was it 'White #58085' as mentioned on pg1?

EDITED: after a quick google we dont seem to have Sherwin Williams paint in Aus that I can see, Masters was the only one to stock their home range, and we all know what happened to them :/

Looks good... dunno if i could even get that mixed here, I will ask the painter who is next door to my mates workshop if he can mix that, he can do RAL codes, so you never know, as they are rare in Aus.

FWIW Ive started a thread on Norbos forum to see if anyone can give us the info on what the UK painters are using on their LCs, which always look amazing when you see the 'I just got my bodywork back' posts LOL

Well I do have a 'plan b' Jon but its something I am going to ponder while I fill the dozen pin hole's + in my tank. Not beaten yet but I must say the motorcyle companies certainly made this paint matter an intriguing challange. Ben thx for your input - how long ago did you make this discovery and what lead you to that conclusion/decision? Jon I can always arrange for pint of Sherwin Williams paint for you if you want as it is available where I live at Napa. If so, hopefully it won't take as long to ship it to you as that tool did. Initially, I was a bit sceptical about Sherwin Williams paint as I have always associated this company with household paints only. A little more research revealed they do have an auto paint div. Going to see if there are Sherwin Willaims paint samples or a Dupont match single stage in an adjacent city. Well, again off to weld and put in a spray liner weather permitting ( got cold n damp, urr).

LC CDN----
I have an auto paint code for you. From NOS parts scanned at Napa.
The gentlemen says it's a perfect match and I believe him as he is quite finicky.
I will post it tonight.

Colin, on behalf of all following this thread - thank-you. I knew the collective wisdom of this form would (has) stepped up to the plate. Hope the code is still available.

Cool, also on Norbos forum Rob (who is in Aus) is having his NOS panels scanned as well, should know the result of that soon.
