Mirrors 84-85 USA RZ 350

#1 Post by brrrappp » Mon Sep 24, 2018 2:58 pm

Has anyone found a good restoration replacement for the black OEM mirrors for the 84/85 US model RZ350?

I found some "Emgo" look-a-likes in black that are a very close match except the length at the longest bend is about 1.5 inches shorter.

The jam nut and the bend are very slightly different but not really noticeable unless you have them side by side.

If there is a better solution out there I would be grateful for a link.

I bought the gen yam chrome mirrors in the end for one of my LCs and my 83. They are gen yam made my Toyo and streets ahead of the nasty loose aftermarket ones.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know Yamaha still sold the funky "bug antennae" mirrors in chrome.

I know I said elsewhere I'm not taking the bike (s) to shows and I do ride them. However, for me, certain things seriously detract from the look of these RZ's. My "it looks like crap" list is.... non-standard mirrors, missing radiator shroud reflectors, hardware-store "fat" hose clamps, mismatched screws (especially on the case covers), colored or clear fuel, coolant, and oil lines, Tinted or tall windscreens or windscreens without the black lower band or windscreens missing the correct rubber trim. Rust on the headers, fork braces, steering dampers, bent levers, colored grips, and tear-drop turn signals...for some reason I just can't see past those items.

Thanks, and to be fair, I only found this site a couple weeks ago while rebuilding an oil-pump on my 84 RZ. I got in there and only see 1 pin turning the gear and it looked like there should be 2. This forum saved me from buying a new pump! That lead me to many other forum posts.....I was up til 3am the other day reading some of smokers posts. I almost chimed in about employing an ATK chain-torque eliminator on one of his threads until I saw it posted a page or two later. Some very knowledgeable folks on this site! And apparently some very serious enthusiasts.

I am just the opposite on the mirrors. I hate the factory ones and I think the bike looks way cleaner with bar ends which is what I run on all my 2 strokes. I sold my factory mirrors right after I bought my RZ. That being said , welcome to the forum! There are a lot of really smart and helpful people here.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
as the saying goes.....
"Beauty is in the eye of the buyer"

Just to be clear- it is with an eye toward "restoration" and with respect to the word "collectable" that I made my "it look's like crap" list.

My idea of restoration ...period correct light engine modification, stock body parts, colors/decals, OEM parts where possible. Mechanically sound/reliably running.

I can't see past my shoulders with the stock mirrors but I refuse to degrade the old girl.
