Thanks Rory.

I moved this one on a little more yesterday, I finally got the last of the old powdercoat off the headlight/fairing bracket and re powdered it in satin black. Phew! Feels like that was a long job, I hate trying to get old powder off. :(

Paint is great for that, but powder is so much nicer to look at when its done right. :)

Been working on Brakes again... This time it was the turn of the master cylinder.

I stripped, blasted, cleaned and powdercoated the master cylinders and all the associated parts. More of a job than you might think as some of these units have led a really hard life!

I cleaned up the OEM rubber and was amazed at the results. I used AluBrite to eat away the stuck on alloy corrosion and it came up like new.

I sourced new OEM rebuild kits for the working parts and fitted them along with rezinc’d banjo bolts and new copper washers.

I fitted an el cheapo new sight glass from ebay, it was a tight squeeze!

Finishing it is a re powdered original lever and a new switch.

Im waiting for new screws to be zinc’d for this one, the ones in it are loaners.

I also powdercoated the brake splitters as well. I noticed that the LC and the RZ versions are identical though the RZ unit has 47X (RD/RZ500 code) on it while the LC has no identifying marks.

What DOT brake fluid do you use Jon?
Do you get corrosion around the master cylinder lid like we do here?
Looks right tasty. :smt016

Thanks Colin.
I use Dot4 these days, I have used Dot3 back in the day and Dot5.1 (silicone) as well in various vehicles.

Yes we get the same corrosion you do. Most of Aus has a decent enough winter that we dont have to salt the roads, but things like the Yam masters with their OEM paint shed their skin like a fast growing snake, just as they do everywhere else. I should have done a before pic, this unit was scabby and nasty of course. Im hoping that a good blast and then powdercoating will keep the corrosion at bay... we'll see I guess...
