Managed to get a little more done tonight. Installed the wiring, engine, torqued the chassis and suspension. Hooked up the electronics, and the cooling system. Filled with glycol.

Rory, your next project needs to be a bike bench. You are too old to be building something that nice on the ground...

So, yesterday I went to the garage to get my bike ready for today. I wasn't there 10 minutes and Steve pulls up on his '83 RZ. I thought he dropped by to look at my messy garage. Turns out, to my surprise he's there to help me out. Holy crap, great!
So we set out in my messy, unorganized garage at about 6:30pm. Steve rolled out at about 12:30am. What a guy. Great help Steve, thanks so much.
We put the wheels, brakes, fenders, carbs, pipes, controls, among other things. Checked the rad fluid, topped it up, dropped the battery in and fired it up at 10:30, on the second kick. I felt pretty good about it running.
We kept at it until just after midnight. Well, both feeling tired, hungry and in need of some sleep, Steve headed home, about 3 KMS away. I kept at it. Installed the rear tail light, lisense plate and then packed it in.

Fitting the bodywork required some fiddling around. Installing the Pingle petcock required me to grind a bit of the side panel tab off of the tank. No problem.

Today was the event. I went to sleep about 3am. Got up this morning and made it to the garage about 10am. The event started at 10am. I then wired in my tail light, after using silicone to install my headlight in the fairing bucket provided with the kit. I made one last feeble attempt to paint the white stripes on the seat kit. Another fail! The paint on this thing is horrendous to say the least.
Steve and I tried to fit the lower, but with the Toomies, it was not going to happen with out cutting modifications. No time for that. Evan can attest to making bigger than stock pipes fit in the fairing.

It was time for me to head out. The bike fired right up, first kick. I rode down my gravel alley and turned out onto the street. The headlight immediately fell out of the bucket. I hadn't even squeezed the trigger yet. I rode to the next side street and pulled in. I tried to reposition the headlight. It was on, but no go. WTF. I decided to take off and make the event. I rode it like I stole it. The Toomies are a great improvement.
No instruments, no turn signals, no mirrors. Just get there. I arrived, meandered through the crowd on the street, which was for bikes and people only. I picked my way through the crowd and made my way to Universal Cycle. I parked near Steve. Geoff was there with his RZ500

I'm happy with the way the bike is set up. It feels good, is comfortable for a cramped seating position, but my work has only just started. Lol, and I say that as I lie here in bed, on my day off, exhausted from last week's marathon.

Thanks guys.

The paint is totally unacceptable. I like the scheme, colours...the fairing has to be addressed. I guess it needs the personal attention that makes it uniquely mine. Tweaked here and there. Details worked out. Upgrades, braided brake lines and other goodies like the Triumph calipers thatI have sitting in a box. The rear sets from T12.

Oh, something that I totally forgot about. I was drilling holes in the windscreen. Everything was going great. Now you know, because I said that, something went wrong, right?! Well, yeah:

On the very last hole, the windscreen broke in two. WTF.

When I returned to my garage yesterday, I put the bike in, locked up and went home. I'll resume posting with updates when I get back at it...although, that may be a while. I'm very busy with other things. Cheers guys!

Hey Rory,
You can pick up a drill bit for plastic/plexiglas at the hardware store. It has a steeper angle than a regular high speed steel bit & is less likely to create cracks around the hole...

Great tip Bryan. I'll regrind a bit. As a machinist, I should be able to pull that one off. I used to put masking tape on either side of the screen to also prevent issues. That always worked.

Today, after work, I went to the garage to work on the bike a bit. The headlight had not bonded in with the silicone that I had used. It was too old, the silicone. I used two bolts to secure the headlight.
The tail lights had failed on Sunday, so I removed the seat to see what was up. I filled the injector tank with oil and noticed that the tail light ground wire had broke loose. All repaired, so I rode it home tonight.
I've ordered flush mount signals which I'll install next week when they arrive. Until then, I will use my hand signals. The bike goes like snott! I'm enjoying it.
The next priority will be fitting guages.

Got up this morning to go join the boys for breakfast at our local Denny's. I was rolling the bike backwards out of the garage and I threw it down, as in dropped it. Broke the brake lever, scratched my brilliant paint job in a couple of spots. I laughed out loud when it happened, the perfect brain fart. It's nice to be older and appreciate other things. The bike can be repaired. I brushed off my pride, checked it over and rode to Denny's.
It survived the mini crash quite well. The screen survived, so did the fairing. It did after all, high side on the sloped driveway.
After breakfast I headed over to the shop. Steve and I were going over the bike. My rear brake pedal scratched my minty pipe. Probably time to service that brake, all sponge. Steve noticed a couple of other things. A little residual fibreglass on the front fender. I forgot to mention the wheelies on the way over. My stock engine was good for 42 wheel hp on the dyno last year, now add he Toomey's. It goes much better. Time to think about some RaceTech springs and emulators I think. Also a bolt is rubbing on my swing arm.
I then headed over to my garage. I popped the master cylinder covers and the brake fluid was black. No wonder they were non-existent in the rear and sad up front. I bled those, and have lever feel again. I did some body work adjustments as well. Steve had noticed a shotty fit with the tail light. Good now. I must say, now that I'm practically sitting on the rails, I feel like one with the bike. It handles way better then stock. One of the guys at the breakfast said, "You're too big for the bike". I may be, at 215 lbs, but I'm having a scream on it. It feels so much like my TZ250K without the larger slicks. Way more so then my old LC.

I have ordered a few parts recently. In fact, Steve just paid over $100 for me to have some choice rubber pieces from Yamaha. I'll pay him one day, really, I will.
Today some flush mount signals showed up at work. Tacky, but I'd like to have signals on the bike. I'll get some pics up once they are on. Hopefully this weekend.
