Rory's US Air-Tech YZR fairing on Canadian FI Build Thread.

#1 Post by hondaror » Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:01 am

So I received my fairing today from mouth on this forum. A big thanks to him. I am stoked. I will add to this build thread as soon as I figure out how to upload pics from my new phone. Proving to be a real problem. The phone is new to me but still has my wife's id.
Concerns to deal with. I've done a load of research on these fairings. They were developed for the US '84 and '85 RZ350, which is quite a bit different from the Canadian '86-'90s, which I have 4 of.
I will have to alter or remake the front and side fairing mounts. The tail section will have to be fibre glass patched and recut around the tank. Tasks that I am ok with tackling. I love the look of this kit. Well worth the effort.
Here is a before pic of the bike. As I purchased it. Sunburst. The second one is a roller I also picked up. The first is a seized $600 special.

Hi there,

Hope to see those pics, soon!
I suggest downloading the photobucket app, which is very user friendly.

Cheers,
Pat

Thanks, but the current issue is the phone. I'm working on it.

I heard they need a lot of prep work before paint. Don't forget the gloves, fiberglass will kill your hands!!

The surface is a dull white, blown on, not gelcoat. It's smooth, you can see rework by the factory to get them through QC. Build quality is excellent. I'm very happy. Others with the kit can chime in. Anything you paint requires a lot of prep work. That should not matter.
I inquired about clear windscreens and they are available with 4-6 weeks of lead time. Just over $100.

if you can download the tappa-talk app you should be able to easily upload pics from your phone. Same login credentials etc.

I meant photobucket app for smartphones. Works great!
It is then very easy to get the links to be embedded using the forum´s text editor (Img button)

If not happy, then try nokturnal´s suggestion.

Yeah, I pretty much do this now too. No more messing with photobucket etc. Quick and dirty for posting pics.

You're lucky. The last YZR kit I held in my hands was so thin it was transparent. No structural strength and generally poorly made and useless.

Most complain about there bodywork being heavy. This looks like gel-coat to my eyes and the YZR stuff on the rz it this garage is real nice.

I think so. mouth paid for an extra layer of glass. This stuff seems very rigid. The box shipped was 28 lbs with all hardware.

I received another R6 shock in the mail today from the states. I continue to amass parts for the builds. $60 delivered. Waiting on a swing arm from the UK.
