Maybe just the photo angles, but the tail looks very long.
Re: Rory's US Air-Tech YZR fairing on Canadian FI Build Thre
I was thinking the same thing. Too long!

Maybe this is why the tail is extra long...LMAO

No, it's just that my fat arse stretched things a bit. It looks fine. The angle may play tricks. Ask Steve, Off Road what he thinks. He sees it almost daily.
I did a bit more work today. Blew a second fuel hose. Pinched it this morning wheelieing in to work. So this evening I repaired the hose, removed the air box, so no more pinching, and installed K&N pods. Now I have to re dyno and jet accordingly. Feels a little lean. We'll soon see.
I happened to have a battery box that was carved away from an air box, so I managed to mount the battery ok.

I see the lead weight sitting on the ground there. You should consider getting a Shorai battery for it. Half the size and a 10th of the weight. [emoji16]

Yuasa all the way. Lithium ion is crap on the charging systems and is not a match for industry standards.TCRZ88 wrote:I see the lead weight sitting on the ground there. You should consider getting a Shorai battery for it. Half the size and a 10th of the weight. [emoji16]

Are you speaking from experience? I have one and have zero complaints. My charging system maintains it with regularity and I had never failed. Besides, once the bike is running, there is very little for the battery to do anyways. It all runs off the stator.hondaror wrote:Yuasa all the way. I work in a bike shop. We see all kinds of "fun" stuff. The RZ can not function total loss without a battery. Your charging system will cook. The LC can run total loss. I did that for 6 years.
We get lithium batteries on occasion, but they can not be charged by standard chargers. The system was designed to run with the good old lead plate acid battery. I won't use anything else. One less problem to have to deal with.
The bikes that do come in with lithium batteries and problems, are cleared up with the return of a stock battery. I've seen it enough times to know, that I'm not going there.

FWIW I've been running a small Ballistic battery for 5 seasons. I take it in the house in winter and have never charged it, no problems and it takes up less than half the battery box. It weighs way less than any lead acid battery I've had, standard or AGM, Yuasa or Chinese copy and has given me less trouble than any of them.
Re: Rory's US Air-Tech YZR fairing on Canadian FI Build Thre
I do the same. It was surprising when I got it how light it is.RuZty wrote:FWIW I've been running a small Ballistic battery for 5 seasons. I have had mine for about 4 years and I have pretty much forgotten about it since I installed it, but I am in Florida.
Red/White US '84, Spec II pipes, Y-boot w/K&N, Fox Shock, Mikuni carbs?

Same here. Four cell ballistic in one RZ350 and in the RZ500.
Neither is on a battery tender, both sit for very long periods of time, both batteries cycle the power valves really fast all the time.

Mine too. Not really seeing a problem with them, but I'm no bike mechanic either.kpke wrote:Same here. Four cell ballistic in one RZ350 and in the RZ500.

Re: Rory's US Air-Tech YZR fairing on Canadian FI Build Thre
I've 3 new & used sets of US spec YZR bodywork all 10 years old now or older. On my bodywork it is their proprietary Gel Coat
All my tail pcs and all others I have 30 images of different RZs w YZR kits fitted, they all appear to be the same length as yours, standard YZR profile.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone call Airtech bodywork...heavy...lol
While thin & light to call it useless, would honestly be an unfair assessment as it's primarily designed for racing which it is ideal.
Thise of you that have followed here for 12 years know I do have my share of broken record documented rants regarding AirTech quality as my gelcoat has spider webbed and cracked and some has never been fitted.
"On my kits" there are some fitment issues that bother me, the YZR tail section needs to be flexed "substantially " to remove or install over the subframe rails, which then in turn cracks the gel coat... NOT THE GLASS
My primary complaint is the (non disclosure) that it is "race only" bodywork, so if you buy it and desire to spend the $1000.00 plus on a quality paint job...your frankly out if luck and for the price of the bodywork..at a grand plus I feel that was unreasonable.
If it's a track bike...then no problem
The GSXR has orig Yoshimura glass...it's paper thin..thinner than standard AirTech production glass.
A friend just ordered a complete Airtech 86-87 GSXR bodywork kit, He asked that it be double glassed, they told him (NO XTRA CHARGE)but it arrived as thin as previous AirTech bodywork, He's going to contact them. My RZs going to be a track bike, & quick ride around town bike, I'm buying a cruiser for riding. So the thin bodywork is something I'm just going to deal with, "it is what it is" My tail sections though are going to require splitting in 1/2 & widening 1", no way around that at all. I'm also altering the subframe and tank.
Mine are the US RZ design, I have no idea regarding Hondadors moulds and it any updates that have been made. I'm sure he will keep people posted if he views anything not kosher. He's correct that most fiberglass in order to apply a quality paint job, is going to require surface skimming , flex additives block sanding, filler primer etc..
Definitely a love / hate..or...a labor of love
