Look at all the issues, just running the wrong bulbs, and then there are all of you guys running non OEM batteries. Ever wonder why there are so many other problems? Kind of obvious, isn't it? Running non OEM batteries often create problems long after the install. That's what confuses so many. They don't even think of the battery as a possible issue, because it worked fine for so long.

Just ranting.

Er, rant all you like but the battery wasnt the issue and IME it rarely is, but YMMV of course. :smt023

Anyway, For this 'problem' I only needed to get the bulbs specified on the side of the flasher unit, it then runs fine, ie 'as designed'. I just didnt have any.

Naturally, if you fit LED indicators you will have a flasher problem, adding a different flasher can mean different wiring etc etc etc. Over the years Ive found that electrical issues are huge problems to the DPO brigade. They panic and fix it with stupidity. Most of those fixes are downright dangerous. One thing Ive seen recently is people fitting LED and HID headlights. Yeah sure, bright as anything and cool to look at... tho blinding for on-coming traffic etc. And then they burn out your regulator as the old halogen bulb was also taking some of the power out of the circuit when it was originally designed and now the generator is pushing too much into the reg, and next thing your vehicle goes up in smoke cos it cant cope. sigh.

Jon, your bulb wattage points are spot on. Something that so many miss. We see so many bikes in the shop with multiple issues and it often falls on the wrong battery being used. That's what I'm ranting about.
I know many have no problems with the ultra light batteries. You guys have been lucky.

Oh, I wasn't picking on you, I was just ranting because people think they can stuff anything in the sockets and it should work. I never had problems back in the day, cause I went to the dealer to get the right parts. Why is everyone a McGyver?

Fitted the NOS OEM cover today to a brand new foam (from the UK, via our very own Rob, cheers mate!) onto the cleaned up base plastic with all rezinc'd fixings. I'd been alternatively resting and stretching the cover during our hot summer to get as many of the fold marks out of it and today its a sunny 28degC so about right to do the work and then leave the seat in the sun. Looks decent and almost all the marks are out, not bad at all for a cover tahts been folded for decades. pics later.

Weeelllll.... It kinda looks like any other LC seat only its black as the ace of spades and doesnt have any rips lol

I'll do some pics... for you mate. I still feel like this should really be on your build and hence bad for having it, but... tis done now...

I heard lots of people tell me trimmers hate NOS covers as they deteriorate with age and the stitching breaks, this one was supple as anything and the vinyl was stretchy and new feeling. Phew!

What a bonus when you find NOS parts, take a chance with them, and they turn out to be fantastic! Kudos!

Yeah, I got lucky with quite a few parts over the years, but the seat cover was pretty special. Its also in tip top shape too, stretched up nicely and the fold corners are 99.9% gone already :)

Swapped the bars today. I originally fitted a used set that i painted and they obviously came off something non LC and were aftermarket anyway... When I was in the UK I picked up a set of the correct 4L0 part number NOS OEM bars from a very helpful forumer. They went on today without a hitch and fitted much much better than the others.

Amusingly I actually bought the modern OEM Yam LC fitment bars for this bike and they arrived along with a set for my 251LC. The very next day I was contacted about the 4L0 part number set. The 2nd, now spare, modern set was immediately snapped up by LB which saved him some money and allowed me to not feel like I was the collecting handlebars lol
