Some gentle, er ‘progress....’... Hmm, not really... LOL!

Ive been chatting to a forumer about OEM tools. He is missing his 4mm allen key from his set and after talking about it I decided to pull mine out and see if I had the one he was talking about. I assembled my kit in much the same setup as other pics of these kits, like so:

Image

The reference pic from Xavier’s site (turned 90 deg to match my pic):

Image

So, it seems Ive a few issues....

1 – Im missing the same 4mm allen key he is! Im told it says ‘4mm KKT’ on it. We need two if anyone has some?
2 – My other 5 and 6mm allen keys also do not have the ‘KKT’ stamp on them, but they do look ‘right’ and have other squiggle marks.
3 – Im missing the extender bar, luckily said forumer had a spare so at least that was good news!
4 – Im missing the 2nd 10/12 spanner, seems yamaha gave 2 with the LCs
5 – My C spanner for the shock is incorrect, its obviously for a spoked wheel bike as you can see the spoke wrench cutouts

I knew I was missing the extension, but damn... seems Ive got less tools than I thought :(

Anyway undaunted I cleaned the tools, washed the bag and also the OEM ‘shoelace’ which with a bit of work came up bright white. Wow.

So, im now on the hunt for the missing tools... I know to many this wouldn’t matter a jot, but to me (and LC Cnd who I was talking to) this is as important as the right graphics :)

I’ll do another pic when I have all the right tools I guess...

AFAIK the spanners supplied were 17mm/14mm, 14mm/12mm, 12mm/10mm & 10mm/8mm so looks like you are missing the 14mm/12mm

Piccy of my kit

And closeup of spanners

If you still need an extension handle I have a spare.

Cool thanks for that! I did think it was strange that there was two 12/10's, so 14/12 makes more sense.

Interesting that you have a different shaped C spanner, I wonder if the kit changed over the years of production. Mine still seems wrong as it has the spoke wrench notches, but its at least the same shape as yours :)

Do you know what your allen keys have stamped on them?

My C spanner looks similar to the type supplied with the YPVS tools, TBH that is probably where my set originated.

The allen keys are stamped, 4M KKT, 5M KKT & 6M KKT

Thanks Nigel, maybe thats the difference then in the LC and ypvs kits, just the C spanner is the flatter style with the hole in the middle )for the screwdriver?). Tho in that pic it does look like 2x 10/12 spanners too.

Ruzty, no hurry... Im always slow to do stuff, but interested to see what you have in yours. :)

Wahooooo! Big Day... no seriously... I received this:

Image

My wife looked at me like i was mad as i was so excited. Its like its my birthday all over again, which is pretty near actually.

So what is it? Well regular readers will recall Scott (LC Cnd) and I have become the saddos of the LC world, getting excited about fuel caps and tool sets... and this is part of the latter, kindly donated by Scott himself. Thanks mate, you're the best!

So all I need now is the 12/14 spanner (wrench for those who live across the pond) and im as complete as I can get...

As I'm now back on my feet a little more I've been looking at my projects and this LC is almost at the point where I need to sort the frame and get started building up the project... but there were still a few more jobs I could do before that so I've been ticking them off slowly....

Firstly, I've got the cylinders at the reborers as I type, so they should be back in a week or two and one job I had part done might finally be getting completed; The LC pipes.

To be honest they've been on the back burner for a while really as I have been waiting for the F1 to become 'exhausted...'. Regular readers may recall that I decided a while back to return the F1 to a 'more standard look' so the TSA pipes were sold and I needed to source OEM pipes... not easy at all in Australia, but let's cover tahtin the correct thread... suffice to say the wait to complete these pipes is almost over as my procrastination centered around the 2 sets getting sprayed in KBS's Extereme temp paint at the same time to save on messing about.

Since Ive been working on pipes for the F1 I decided to pull out and tidy up the JB weld filler areas on these pipes as well, as I wasn't happy with them and also remove the restriction washers that all Aussie pipes seem to have. Bizarre but true. I don’t remember these on the UK/EU spec ones Ive seen before and they're just tacked in so an easy fix with the dremel and a hammer.

Image

Here are the remnants of the 4 pipes:
Image

Image

Originally I made up some short stub baffles from the old baffle parts I had for these pipes, but with me now needing something to baffle the F1s pipes I had to have another look in the big bag of trashed exhaust parts and see what I could find. I actually impressed myself as over the years I had managed to hurl enough of the rusty (or oily) bent and broken bits of metal in there to allow me to locate enough parts to make up two serviceable OEM LC baffles! This meant I could use the stub ends I had made for the LC on the F1 and most of the bag of trashed metal parts is now used up or chucked out in the bin - result!

Image

The ends of one were trashed, but a bit of manipulation and it became round again, phew!
Image

Quick blast, weld together and then paint.... And yes I did wrap them, even tho no one ever does... I actually had this wadding left over in the correct size in my ‘used pipe bits’ bag, so rather than chuck it away I used it, I even reused the wire the PO used, talk about being green with a 2 stroke! LOL!

A quick run through with a tap and some new stainless allen bolts and theyre ready to go in the pipes... when they are painted :)

Nice work Jon. I wonder why our pipes have the restriction?

And good score with the extension. Happy Birthday for the near future. :smt030 :smt033

Cheers Dave! I dont know why either, but I see no sense in leaving them in as ive ticked both the LC and the RZ a little in the engine dept, so may as well make a bit of use it where i can :)

I always though it was just to help hold the gasket ring in place when putting them on ?
