AirCooled RD250 LandSpeed Project

#1 Post by EE » Mon Sep 07, 2015 7:59 pm

Well this is why I've been quiet lately... You forget how many details are involved until you decide to build one of these again.. Well here's the concept.. I call it my One Last Time Project. Can I hit 150 unfaired on an RD250? With triple exhaust and every other trick in the book I can roll into her? We'll see.. but I think so :smt002

Cool project!! :smt004

Are you going after a record, or just for personal satisfaction?

Someone should shoot the whole project beginning to end for a video documentary. I love watching stuff like that.

Thanks guys, I think I’m a little bit too low key for a movie I think though..
Smoker currently there are 2 records I could break by hitting 150 but records change so the best way to head into something like this is yes looking to break a couple records but just like you said to also go after it with a personal goal in mind. That’s what I did with my RD400 LSR bike, my goal at first was just to see how fast I could get an RD400 to go, after running the bike a bit I realized that I had a shot at a record or two and through a lot of hard work and good science pulled it off. Another thing you have to bear in mind when you are a “low budget/doing it because you love that particular kind of bike” project is that someone with a much bigger budget could sleeve down say a Cheetah cylinder and rip you a new intake so to speak. But like with my 400 they wouldn’t be able to take away that it’s the worlds fastest RD400 or hopefully the next one the RD250 unless they put in the hard work and longgg hours to do it with that particular kind of bike. Ed, dont worry low key is exactly what the film makers want, they love to get the best out of the story by pulling the info together with snippets of your gold. Anyway, we defo need some more pics and info as the project progresses :)

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I posted to this thread but it hasn't been from a lack of hard work or progress!! I just finished the first season of racing the new bike and while it was challenging working the bugs out she ended the season well with a 143.767mph pass on 11/11/17. That was on single port US RD250 (RD250A-B) cylinders and I've already started working on a new set of triple ex port cylinders and pipes for next year that should put me over my goal of 150. Ed

That's a quick lil 250 :smt023 And that looks like a rewarding experience for alot of hard work.

Just a thought looking at the pic.
i read on the kawa tripple site that removing the front mudguard degraded the airflow over the cylinders .
for the small weight of a carbon fiber fender the improved cooling might be worth it.
