#1 Post by lil_cons » Fri May 20, 2016 12:55 am

Hi Everyone,

I just thought i'd put up my RG/RZ Hybrid Race bike to see what people think...

Parts/Modifications:

83 RG250 Chassis, engine rear mounts cut and rotated to fit RZ engine.

Aprilia RS125 Radiator.

TZ250U Body work.

Spec2 Chambers or RG250 Chambers:

Carbon Reeds, Reedcage Spacers + Twinpod filter with /velocity stacks inside.

RZ250 Engine, 250 Barrels (For eligibility into local Lites Race class) 350 Barrels for Historic Racing.

Braided front Brake line.

It will end up with an FZR250 3LN Front end, FZR250 3LN Wheels front and rear with a GSXR750 Rear Shock with Geometry to suit.

Tips the Scales at around 108kg.

Let me know what you think.

Great project!
I raced a std rg250 back in the day and with a rz350 with decent pipes and 108kgs that should
be real fun.
You may have twice the power the stock rg250 had!
Have fun.

It was great even with the RG Engine, it made 37WHP with the exhaust port raised 1mm and Gutted Chambers.

I haven't had it dyno'd yet, although the RZ250 Engine makes power over a much wider Rev Range.

I'm not sure what the real figures are, but Yamaha Claimed 42-48hp from the 250, so i'll be happy if it makes 40hp with a broad spread of power.

Stock the early Gamma 250s made "ballpark" a little over 30 RWH h.p. a RZ350 a little over 40 h.p.
At a minimum you will see 10h.p advantage and tq increase as well.
The lil Gammas were a sweet handling package.
Just doing the bare basic upgrades to your RZ motor. (mild port, head skim & decent pipes) and you will be bumping up close to 50 h.p, with the potential for a whole lot more should you ever desire it.
You should have miles of smiles and good reliability w a mildly tended to stock YPVS.
Banshee (Baja) race bike,+ 2 A Arms,L.E.Ds, Toomey, +4 stroker IMS tank, run flats.
96 GSXR SRAD, Future Yoshimura rep.
85 custom Tri-Z
RZ/YZR bike(project)
86 VFR750 RC24 Merkel replica (project)
Royal Enfield Bullet 500

Finally got the full bodywork mounted, its a fairly tight fit for the chambers around lower rear of the belly pan due to the Reverse Cylinder TZ body work.

Excuse the Ugly rearset adaptor plate.

Will be ran on the track this weekend.

Finally got some paint work done, its my take on Yamaha's race colours.
Its my first time Painting a bike, I managed to get it Symmetrical, although I was too keen to get the masking tape off in some spots.

Fitted the FZR250 3LN Front end and Wheels with SAVA Race tyres, Adjustable Tie Rod shock linkages to raise the rear and a Re-Sprung 300mm Shock.

Also fitted an RGV 55 Deg thermo and Spacer.

Already running 2 Seconds faster than I was with the RG250 engine with just the RZ250R engine fitted.
