2nd RZ and Aprilia RS/RZ hybrid build (NEW UPDATES)

#1 Post by motosapien » Tue Aug 30, 2016 8:53 pm

I bought an RZ last weekend it was built by a forum member (mountaincycle) and was sold to the guy whom I bought it from.. It looks alright... After going through the bike found out that the headlight faring has a big crack, side panels have broken tabs, lower cowl/faring has a big crack. tank has 2 big golf ball sized dings. Have decided that this will be my winter project....
Started stripping the parts last night will keep you guys posted with the progress.

Thanks!
I already have a Y/B KR edition, Wife wants this to be RED and BLACK and I'm thinking of this paint scheme...hope it looks good with the solo seat, VJ22 swingarm, R1 frontend and good tires.

Made a little progress today, got tired of working outside the apartment. Had an empty room.... converted it to work place with wife's help.
Emptied fluids, should have frame for powder coat in next couple of weeks, hope that everything works out

Did the bars put the dents in the tank? Maybe functional steering stops were not part of the front end swap, it's the one part of the job that isn't a straight bolt on. Looks great otherwise, awesome starting point as everything is there. Since you are doing this inside your home I think you need to honour your wife's colour choice. Take a look at RZed's bike, it's very similar, maybe you could use that style but swap the black and white and keep the red stripe.

@ruzty no the handle bars did not put the dents on the tank... it looks like something else. I will mostly stick with the RED and BLACK oem color scheme as we both like it.

Today's update - took the top end off its running 48H cylinders, transfers are opened up and +0.5mm wiseco pistons, there is a lot of side play in the connecting rod and it definitely need a new crank. Now I am thinking of +4mm rods any suggestions?

Catch can lol, this was sitting idle as I bought a new one so used it. Also I'm using Folgers coffee tin to store hardware haha.
About the clutch I've no plans as of now. The bike came with hinson basket, upgraded plates n springs. I might add n anti seize pancake bearing. I think this would be enough for 4mm stroker.
