RZ350 Ypvs Hybrid South Africa

#1 Post by GDA1 » Thu Sep 01, 2016 4:18 pm

After finishing my CR500AF , I needed to compliment it with a Hybrid. I managed to find a RZ350 almost complete but with a few nasty surprises in the motor.

This is where I am at: new OEM solo tailpiece, VJ22 suspension front and back, R1 clocks, R6 foot pegs. Here are some images of progress and my CR500AF.

One of my power valves shafts were worn , I decided to turn my own bushes to make up the slack on the tolerances out of some oil lite bronze, all good now.

Sweet open class motocrosser. The AF models are just to cool !
A year or so ago, a guy on the freeway was towing a Kawasaki KX500(AF) , I was looking at it & knew something was diffrent, but couldnt figure it out? I just slowed down admiring how trick it looked, then I finally realized what it was when I saw the "Service Honda" decals on the truck, Pretty neat toys, I'd sure like either one, but I know I'd bust myself up, beyond repair.
The RZ Hybrid is gonna look quite sharp, you can already see.
Banshee (Baja) race bike,+ 2 A Arms,L.E.Ds, Toomey, +4 stroker IMS tank, run flats.
96 GSXR SRAD, Future Yoshimura rep.
85 custom Tri-Z
RZ/YZR bike(project)
86 VFR750 RC24 Merkel replica (project)
Royal Enfield Bullet 500

thanks Questo vecchio rz, I built the CR500AF over a period of 1.5 years, I have learnt that the finer details take all the time, there is a saying that 80% of your project takes 20% of the total time and the 20% that's left takes 80% of all the time, very true.

anyway here is the link of the CR500AF build: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.p ... c=180708.0

RZ350YPVS hybrid will follow a similar suit, for now just gathering and ensuring all is good before cosmetics are attempted.

Got my parts back from engineer, swing arm bushes hardened and aluminum parts hard anodized, VJ22 swing arm getting ready for installation.

Just wondering why you used bushings instead of bearings in the swingarm.

Good to see you on here, thought you'd retired and sailed into the sunset. I hope all is well.
Maybe he made new inner races to fit the RZ pivot shaft?

Probably just my terminology, I turned two collars that fit into the stock needle bearing, in order to fit the RZ350 swing arm shaft.

GDA1,

You could have used the stock RZ350 bearing pivot tube as well, if you don't mind looking at an alternative I'll e-mail you some pictures of how I've done the VJ22/23 swingarms for the RZ's,
pretty much the same as you've done using the adapter plates, only real difference is in setting up the bearings for the swingarm.
