TZR350 from circuit to road

#1 Post by tzrz350 » Fri Sep 02, 2016 6:12 pm

I've started a project to convert my racing TZR350 (originally built by Glyn in the UK) into a street bike. Why? Because it will be much more practical to have fun with it now that a fourth kid is soon arriving.

I've already bought Motogadget M-Unit (awesome piece of kit by the way) and M-Lock, Superseal connectors, strip of LED for turn signals and brake light, bar-end mirrors, etc. The intent is to keep the racing look, so projector beam will be hidden under the front cowl between the forks.

So I am rewiring the full bike, installing lights, switches, mirrors and somehow will need to fit a kickstand.

Doing this in parallel to my 1983 RZ350 resto.

I clicked your link above and then right clicked on the pic and selected copy image address and got this (ignore underscores added to preserve entire path);

I then put the Img tags around it and ;

PS, awesome bike, I believe it was Slingers (Glyn) correct?

I think we were typing the above at the same time.

Indeed. Glyn, automatic corrector had changed it to Glen!!

It was in medium shape when I got it from a second owner (it had seen salty roads of Montreal in winter behind a car) but I fixed many things since. I didn't use it much (other than illegally on the road a few times) so thats why I want to convert it while keeping the current style. Its a very beautiful bike in my opinion, hope it will go though inspection...

Easy part, stripping the bike... engine bolts need to be torqued to spec to I needed space. I removed the carb, rad and hoses, sub-frame, etc. It will be easier to do the wiring like that.

Making brackets to re-position electronics. After multiple trial and errors, I am satisfied with this setup. The EGT display unit is mounted on the triple tree and the Trail Teck and M-Unit are attached to the frame (with brackets). The M-Unit is positioned in a way that I will see the activated outputs while driving. The bracket will be grounded to the frame and offers 4 ground connections to go to hand control button, front and rear lighting, etc.

Finalized the Zeeltronic wiring with Superseal connectors. This is fun!

After few attempts, I found these to do a very nice job.
