Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
I'm glad you got it ...(now I can tell you) the guy whom sold it to you is a stand up guy with a honest heart.
I have a friend whom called him, upon finding out it was sold offered the seller $500, then $1000, then finally $2000.00 over his asking price, sight unseen and offered payment immediately by the end of that banking day. That guy turned away a xtra 2k for you!
Dont meet too many good people who would do that. FYI (It was not me trying to buy it...lol) Understand I had already notified several friends about that bike.
I heard the entire conversation via speaker phone, I sensed he was getting weak when the final 2k bonus was offered, but then said " However much xtra I do appreciate your offer , but Ive given my word to a guy is driving all the way from Little Rock " Thats a Stand up dude.
Said friend did say "I dont want you to do anything your not comfortable with." So in the end they agreed only if you did not show up... So now its your bike!
Sure its going to be alot of work, but you have a rolling chassis with cradle and pipes fabricated, & alot of unique parts... thats alot of work that would have cost you far, far more money.
Congratulations again.

Wow! Yes I could tell myself that he was a stand up guy. I also could tell money was not
a issue by his home and what was inside. Maybe it was karma working on my side.
Just a few weeks ago I sold a truck and someone offered more than I was asking If
I Let him have it instead of the first guy that called.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
I worked a little on the hybrid tonight. Not sure you can see in the pic but the rear set is bolted to the engine
stay. The original location tabs were cut off for swing arm clearance. Not sure I like the looks were they are
now, they feel ok. Thinking of welding a 1/2"x1" plate with taped holes to the outside of the frame just behind the engine bolt. Anyone see anything wrong with that?
Things are close engine and suspension wise, but just mocked up. Working on getting things bolted and
shimed. Guessing I have a 520 chain? Need to get one ordered but not sure what to get? Oring? Guess
I should get a chain break as well, right? What brand? Did get a Ducati tool kit and stands coming.
I noticed it has a new oil pump installed. Think I would like to run it but not sure,. Looks like the engine builder
would have left it out if that was the way he wanted ran. What cable do you run with oil pump and flat slides?
I saw one on ebay that looked like it would work.
On the stock bike, I have most all parts in but the Airtech plastic. Think I will wait till the hybrid is on the road before
tearing it down.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Imo, I'd try to retain the oil injection functioning. It just makes for a cleaner safer running bike if used for all around riding. However with your big bore Cheetah powered top end, you might have to have a higher oil flow rate. Looking by the quality of the build, i wouldnt be surprized if it didnt already have it. Jim Hinshaw @Fast from the Past might be able to assist you with cables etc.. As hes familiar with the Cheetah cylinder hybrids with the "Prilla" RS250 swaps.
Man, thats one awesome looking bike you scored there dude . Really you scored a huge deal and saved many many thousands of dollars
Is that the mockup on the stand w the painted Beasley bodywork, or did the seller build two bikes ? That paint job costs 3k.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Yes that is the bike mocked up with the beasely plastic, but it was just a wrap that was taken off. Think
i will go with that look tho.
You missed that I said the engine came with a new oil pump installed. Seller said it was setup for premix.
He really didn't know as he paid to have all work done.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Nice wrap, looks good from 20' Im thinking of doing a wrap on my bike as I have 2 sets of Airtech YZR bodywork, I'd hate to piss $ away painting thin crappy fiberglass that will 100% crack and fail. Airtech spider webs so easily even before mounting.
I'm a little confused? You mention set up for premix, but it also has a oil pump? Its usually one or the other as the pump & drive are often deleted from the engine.
I might go to premix my bike, I'd prefer injection but can save costs and weight and maybe add 1/2 a h.p....lol without it. Im never going to ride it more than 30 miles at a time so I'll have to just deal w the excessive smoking and accociated issues of premix.

Frank the previous owner said it was setup for premix. I noticed it has a new oil

Pump one is when I noticed the new oil pump. So Im assuming the builder installed.
The previous owner didn't really know for sure on some things as he paid people to do
the work that the bike has had done.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
The Yamacati has a 5.5 rear and 3.5 front wheel with 190/55 and 120/70 tires. Chain is very close as is and still
need to shim sprocket closer to tire. 180/55 may work ok, for sure 160/60. Is the 160 safe on a 5.5 rim? I dont
think I will ever see a full lean on the street. I used the calculator for the 160 but not sure what the rim
whith was and how much the will factor in.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Put the chain on and lined up sprocket, looks like money. Have 1/4" between chain and 190/55 tire. Should have plenty room with the 180/55 tire. Got the engine cradle and engine all bolted and blue loctited in place. Going to shim up swing arm and shock nexted.
from my rc cars racing days Im a firm believer in less rotating mass = tq. So I would still like some input on smaller tires and carbon wheels. One reason I want to go with a less of tire is for roatating mass. Just dont think I need this much meat with the amount of hp on this bike.
Thanks again for all input!
Figured out to post pix. Set res to 640.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Much needed new chain on the stocker. Next Im rebuilding front and rear calipers with new pads, they are badly sticking. I have noticed the cluch slips a bit in high rpm's in 2ed and 3ed gear. Not sure what's up but thinking
the drag from sticking calpers and bad chain was not helping maters.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
I asked a friend whom has two dozen Ducatis, hes said definatly get rid of the 190 & stick with the spec180/55 rear and 120/70 front. Bear in mind that your chassis geometry us diffrent than a 748, after rolling chassis is ready, you should spend some time & calculate rake, trail, sag etc.. To properly set up shocks ride height etc..driftmaster wrote:The Yamacati has a 5.5 rear and 3.5 front wheel with 190/55 and 120/70 tires. 180/55 may work ok, for sure 160/60. Your motor, should produce depending upon state of tune/porting between 80-100 h.p. that is roughly double what a stock U S. RZ left the factory with.driftmaster wrote:Im a firm believer in less rotating mass = tq. So I would still like some input on smaller tires and carbon wheels. Your rims are designed for that width tire. Recomendation is to keep it that way for best chance of proper handling. Also again.. When you buy a 180 rear tire do some research as there can be large variances between manufactures in weight and actual width some 180s are almost 190s.
Buy a matched set of tires designed to work together( dont mix & match)
No comment required regarding fittment of Carbon Wheels. PVM or Dymag the evidence is overwhelming as to their benefits. They do all they claim. Cost is a factor at 4k a set (new) but you do have Ducati rims, theres a good supply of used wheels likley available on forums for steep discounts
As previouslly mentioned idriftmaster wrote:Questo vecchio rz wrote:with your big bore Cheetah powered top end, you might have to have a higher oil flow.
f you are premixing, yes of course. You are good to go. If utilizing the Autolube system, I'd consider setting up the pump for increased oil flow. Contact "Arrow" here he builds them, or Jim Hinsaw @ Fast from the past.

Re: RZ 350 Hooligan Build
Put a laser on the Yamacati, looks like someone done it before me. Thanks to RGVSteve I know now a single arm
doesn't line up like a conventional arm, thanks Steve. Got a set of 180 Pilots. Looks like Its plenty of room
now for the chain. Still looking for a 4.5 rear wheel.
Adjusted cluch cable on the stocker, doing much better now.
