rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
Hi all love the pictures of all the modified bikes
Can't for the lack of trying remember why i ever got rid of my 350N so much fun.
Now not so sure i could live with that cramped up riding position , keep coming back of a trip from ashford kent too liverpool what with rassk rear sets and clip ons , couldnt straighten up for 2 days and i was young.
So was playing with putting one in the rsv 1000r frame
i belive the rolling chassis would be 118kg and sure that would reduce abit .
As far as tuning the engine , i would like to retain the power valves as i remember it made it such an all round road bike.
Your experience and views appreciated

The 350N in standard setup is actually pretty upright, Id stick with that... the RSV is larger and heavier for sure.

Re: rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
A full tilt rz500 engine would look the part in such a frame.....
Prolly why you so sore using those kids sand box cast rear sets ,try with the standard rear sets.

Re: rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
If you want to do it..go for it. Your building a fun bike for you..not a friggin racebike wannabe. As long as you understand what will be required , such as engine sprocket alignment & angle, likley a custom set, or modified pipes (if possible) but doubtful etc.
I agree keep the YPVS. Without it...its just not a RZ, nowhere even the same riding experience and without question retain the autolube system..Rebuld it to factory spec keep it close to stock & you have a reliable bike that you can ride anyway you want anywhere you want without worry
The RZ in reality by modern standards... is sofa w wheels (damn decent cruiser) for such a teeny weenie motorcycle but I'd certailly go w STOCK footpegs..lol
Late last year did a 1000 mile + trip to the Grand Cyn..no trouble at all, on a 100% stock RZ. I'm 6'1, and the 2nd time I did that trip..although 30 years apart...
Done right..your project..might prove to be a outstanding machine. Especially if you have a rolling chassis. As you mentioned the loss of the big engine should bring weight down to a comparable level..or less.

Re: rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
Likely have to build a cradle and that 180 rear will be a touch underpowered with the RZ motor but why not!
Re: rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
Mildly built 421 will have just a bit more grunt. Be reliable too.

Still well down from the stock motor in that chassis.
Should be noted that above bike posted by smoker is their 4-stroke replacement for the RS125 which is a small chassis and a good starting point.
This would be a good looking modern project and depending on the motor fitment could be manageable.

Yep. For me, that's a problem.evan_calgary wrote:Still well down from the stock motor in that chassis.
Like seeing an RZ350 with 100cc engine from the 1950's. Transplanting an engine with less than 1/2 the power as the stock engine.
Bad idea, in my opinion.
It's your project, though. Build it any way that makes you happy.

Re: rz350 into rsv1000r rolling chassis
Very much agree with you here smoker. My general idea (and most tuners) is to put a larger motor into a smaller chassis. Stressing the chassis beyond what it was original designed for is where the 'fun' begins. Putting a much less powerful motor into a larger chassis will most likely end with a great talking piece but fairly boring bike to ride. Again, a 180 section on a 70hp bike is not optimal. The OP here pm'ed me about this comment saying would just 'put in' a 150 tire. There is a pile of custom work that I don't think is understood at this point.

The owner stated quote.
"As far as tuning the engine , i would like to retain the power valves as i remember it made it such an all round road bike."
That being said, It seems apparant that he is after a basic rideable toy, one that he can hop onto and ride anywhere.
Id certainlly feel if hes searching for 70+ h.p. motor or a 421 stroker etc..hed be going the wrong route, as there are far better choices for a "reliable" "go fast" motorcycle.
My personal belief is that a 421 stroker is certainlly not a good candidate for a reliable long wearing road bike that would deliver civil road characteristics, as he mentioned hes after. If he desires more power it will come at a price & while certailly would be a much faster bike w a 70-90 h.p ..it would be the wrong package for a long term or long lasting ride.
(I suppose its whats hes willing to put up with for a daily rider..if he wants to log a few hundred miles or more in a day)? Its all good
If he was in pain on a RZ w rearsets...a swap into a smaller, lighter chassis TZR Etc.....is just going to make matters worse.
If it comes to fruition..when its all said & done after the req. fabrication..if done correctly it should, weight wise be on par or less than a. base RZ..that just isnt a bad thing...for the stated intended purpose. The RZ in basic stock form can buzz along at 70-80 mph relativly effortlessly w a 17 primary..no trouble. Only downfalls are the lightweight..in wind or big rig drafts and wind buffetting..each might be aided by a good swap. Yes a 180 is fat..but should still rotate without worry.
As far as the swap itself..The numbers dont lie & are fairly equivilant/sutible..especially the small parralell twin into a narrow V-twin frame..not so bad at 1st lookover.

Again...its just a toy project..not modern 600cc or liter performance bike, not a race replica..nor is it a cruiser...just a fun project. Not one I would blueprint..but since he has the components at his disposal...should be fun.
