1986-'90 FII build, AirTECH.

#1 Post by hondaror » Tue Nov 14, 2017 12:23 am

Today I picked up a rolling chassis, less the frame. Both the seller and I drove 5 hours to meet.

I'm currently at school for 5 more weeks, then 6 weeks in the new year. Some time in Feb, I will start the build.

Wow Rory, that's commitment, saving RZ350's one at a time. Good job

Rory! Stop buying every RZ available! I'm convinced the recent slump in availability is not a dry market but one thirsty buyer! :) Can I take one of those projects off your hands?

No frame, just all the parts off it. Some great stuff. These are getting very hard to find in Canada now. I won't say no to parts. I have so many bikes to build.

Clocks, harness, rad overflow and oil tanks, complete front and rear ends, pegs, mounts and pedals, lights head and tail.

He's going to build a Banshee powered YZ with the frame.

Evan, I need to take stock before I sell anything. That's 2 piles of parts in 3 weeks. First purchases in well over a year.

3 more days and I'm finished my apprenticeship motorcycle mechanics final school session and exams. Shortly to follow, I will be a lisenced motorcycle mechanic. A lifetime in the making, a trade I started in in 1984. Finally to finish what I started 34 years ago...stopped to get married, raise 2 kids, and then took massive pay cuts and jumped right back in.
I have a few things to sort out in the near future and then on to this build. It's coming. Pics will start up soon.

Well, the education for my apprenticeship is done. I did very well. I have to log another 5 weeks of hours and I'm finished. I just have to find a job. A place where I fit in, and enjoy...but first the move. Trekking 3 hours north, moving in and settling down.
Once unpacked, I have many good BMW car items to sell, part of my purging. I will then get into my RZ parts pile and assemble all the bikes I have. This will keep me organized. Help me with inventory, and make it easier for storage and restoring, one bike at a time.

Keep positive with all that mess around you Rory, remember to compartmentalise and do a bit at a time, just keep going and one day you'll see that there are no more tasks left. :)

Lol. That is the way. I think by the time I'm finished with my mess, I'll be ready to call it quits. I'm going to be busy for a long time.

The yellow F1 is now going to be a dedicated track bike. Time for an F2 to make an appearance. I've started disassembly. In a bit of a hurry to pull this off as the season is short and I currently have no ride.
I have been chatting with AirTECH and they are sending the rest of my initial order today. Including the solo race seat for my Aprilia.
I'm hoping to have an engine sorted this weekend to go into my F2/AirTECH street bike. Then the glass drilling and mounting. Paint will not be a concern until next year.

The bike is running. Jammed the pv wide open. Took it for a spin around the block. Nothing down low and cracks like an LC when it hits about 7500 rpm. I mounted the fairing and have been fiddling with the seat fitment. It's insured and I'll have plate stickers tomorrow. Still working on headlight and clocks, and have to mount the windscreen.

Bought stickers for the plate. Installed the windscreen, and managed to trim the seat to fit. Had to remount the front brake line to work after dropping the clip-ons. I just have to devise a way to mount the guages.

Repainted the front fender, and have to finish that.

Nice bike mate. Looks fast. Put a front fender on it and it's done. I'm liking the white undercoat look at the moment, especially if it has tire lettering (where do you get bridgestone spitfires). Been running this idea on my lcImage
