Found the electrical problem that was dimming the headlight, and glowing the signals was a bad ground to the headlight. Separate ground run to frame and all is good now.

I'll dig into the harness in due time to fix the problem at the source.

Bike is safetied now, and insured. On the road ish... now running into some fuelling problems... not sure if its the jetting or not. Investigations pending. Checking on jetting, tank vent, compression etc. It's falling flat at 6000, same old story...

Interestingly when I took the stator cover off to check the sprocket, it was very clean. Cleaner than ANY used RD/RZ I have bought...

New problems:

1. oil leak from right side. Enough to put a coating on the leading edge of the side panel, some on the pipe, and a drop or two on the rear wheel (can see the "fling")
2. bunged up tacho, not reading right
3. that rear over-size tire is 18 years old
4. new ground issue with signals

Hopefully will have 3 of 4 sorted today... Need to ride the shit out of it this weekend.

I would seriously caution you against riding an 18 yo tire. That is a recipe for disaster.

Did you get a LH switch sorted out? It has a ground running to the main harness as well...

She’s leaking. Electrically challenged. Some sort of front end weirdness.

I’ve put about 500km on it in the last day...

RuZty joined yesterday for a rip. Sweetest handling RZ I’ve been on.

I think the electrical issues are due to a sticker imbalance. There is not enough blue on the RH side...

Turns out that the Suzuki DRZ 400 tail light is exactly the same as the LC tail light. And I don't mean close, it is EXACTLY the same part number.

Possible. They did their primary job though, which was to distract from/cover the dings and scratches in the tank.

I am back from my weekend riding trip... The bike functionally did about 800 problem-free twisty-road crank-stressing km (depending on your definitions), like a mf champ.

Electrics are still F'ed. I took apart the gauges in the hotel, redid the ground in that harness, but they are still not working properly. The tach problem is electrical too I think (even though its mechanical drive), as I believe it works at a standstill, but not while riding, which is the same with the signal idiot lights and temp guage. There is another bad ground somewhere.

There was a small oil leak, I believe at the front case joint, which was a consistent few drops per ride all weekend, enough to spray in the wind on to the carb, case and leading edge of the side cover, but not on me thankfully. This will hopefully be fixed when I do the clutch soon, I had some rare slippage at HIGH rpm.

The new battery-tender lithium battery, did not explode, catch fire, or otherwise, and worked as expected all weekend, even with a questionable electrical system.

Front end is making weird noises at slow speed (maybe I can only hear them at slow speed)... I think it may be the cable drive for the speedo. Sounds like a cable slapping a fender, a sort of clunkyness, but that is defo not what is happening.
