Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
Hello! Im building my dream bike and i have come a long way Now its time to adjust carb settings
and im thinking about getting a KOSO AFR meter. It must be a great help??? or is it a waist of money that
i could have bought jets instead??
Regards// Tommy

Hello , and welcome to the forum.
Beautiful machine you are building, that the way a RZ would have eventually looked like if only the did not go extinct in 1985.
As far as a AFR, ? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but in all seriousness...
NEVER in 35 years have I ever viewed , racers nor enthusiasts using one, that including multi time champions.
It all goes back to "jetting" for your conditions.
Again not to say it's not useful it sure could be! but definitely NOT needed.
If you can't jet it comfortably on your own, by all means hire a tuner to dial it in and learn from them. Alot depends upon your state of tune such as, what are your motor details, what kind of cylinders? What's your port timings, compression ratio ,carb size etc.. If it's a tight high strung race motor, your going to have to be very aware and careful with your jetting. If it's a basic, stroker, (non- ported) cylinder kit such as Athena,Driveline,CPI (Chettah/Serval) etc.. Then it's not so critical, but if your running tight squish/ high compression/advanced timings etc..then again learn to jet according to your days conditions. If your running that bike still or near it's limit on a track, then you already know this, your "safe" jetting could vary from morning to afternoon.
If you would, please share some specs on your build, your motor design, gear box choice/ carb size etc.
My build is similar intentions, but utilizing the RZ frame. I should have done a frame swap...but I'm a RZ romantic...lol

Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
Well .... I used one.
When applying the EFI to my RZ it was a handy tool as you could log the values and later let an optimizer modify the fuel map to match your desired values.
The culprits?
- Cost. In form of reduced probe life. First one held around 70 h which was basically around an Euro per hour.
- Misreadings. It's not idiot proof as you only get infos about oxygen content in your exhaust gas. If the AFR is "lean" but engine runs fine and EGT is spot on, you should use your brain to decide what to do.
- "Optimal" AFR. That'll be a topic of hard discussion just as which EGT to use. My take on it was to ride the bike in different conditions and "feel" what the engine needed in which part of the map. (Yes, not all the same values required)

Nice...have a similar build underway. If MK uses it is a good idea but also likely somewhat optional.
Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
Well actually I was relying on Steve's (aka Smurph) findings.
Check here: http://www.smcomp.com/~smurph/RZ-EFI/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Later I was using AlphaN instead of speed density and also optimised my AFR targets to what my engine required (which was different than in his application).
If you have some 4 strokes, it makes more sense as you can use it on them, too.
And here it's pretty reliable.

Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
What did you have to do to fit Triumph rear rim in there?

Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
Not much but you need a new caliper holder. You can use standard RS250 axle.evan_calgary wrote:What did you have to do to fit Triumph rear rim in there?
Triumph Daytona 675 rim sprocket holder and left spacer lines up perfect. You need
to machine a new custom caliper holder. I got drawings if you need them.

Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
I found your build on the App RS site...
Okay..Now I'm thinking I'll be looking for a RS250 rolling chassis..there just not very common, TZ and TZRs are in the mix too, but hard to find and getting expensive.
If I can locate a rough RS w no motor, electrics etc.. I'd be very interested...I just have no clue what there going for.?
The Wicked pipes,on those I think I know what shop they sub contracted out to make them, Very well respected pipe builders..with a hella good reputation.
Obviously not the same colors that delivered it her pipes to them.
I'd do the same build, only utilize a Seval.
But either way....That's a beautiful machine ..keep sharing info and updates.
If you don't mind you can send me the rear wheel drawings, I'd love to do that eventually. I can PM you my E- Mail.
Anyone have any leads on reasonably priced RS roller ?...lol

They're way more common than you think! Especially in California.Questo vecchio rz wrote:I found your build on the App RS site...

I paid $2500 Canadian for an Exceptional condition roller. Everything except the engine and pipes. I think I got an amazing deal. But complete bikes can be had for $5-8k US.
I have an 17 digit vin frame for sale right now for $600cdn plus shipping. Will need import docs to get it on the road, but that can be done quite easily.
Re: Aprilia RSW/RD350-421 Hybrid
The Triumph rear 5,5" rim you can use it on a RS250 Aprilia. Use standard RS250 axle, Triumph sprocket holder and left spacer aligns fine. You do need a custom made caliper/spacer holder. I use a Aprilia RSV1000 rear caliper. I use a 180/55-17 slick and there are no clearence issues without modyfiing swingarm.
