I've got a set of pipes that look just like those expansion chambers but they have Factory cans on them. Some kind of parts swapping went on there I think.

Seems to me that designing a chamber is a rather complex science. So maybe one or two teams did the work to figure out what works well and other companies copied them...

The hangers on mine are exactly the same as the ones in the pics above.

There is a DG mod out there. It increases the stinger with 1” pipe then little silencers are grafted on. Thats what I’ll do to mine forsure.
Cheers?

I looked into this and all I found was people modding the RD400 pipes so that it has a stinger. Is there an RZ version mod too?

I have a brand new, unstamped rz250/350 top crankcase. I know that the story goes that they are machined in upper and lower cases assembled, but I have tried this top section on a spare set of cases lower crankcase and there are no steps/lips where they two halves meet. If you are interested PM me but I'm in West Australia.

There are two dowel pins that align the top and bottom case halves. I believe they are assembled this way, and then "line bored" so that they line up perfectly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

However... I might be interested in it for another purpose. PM inbound.

The matching of the halves is pretty important since all the shafts, crank and transmission, need to line up to get good bearing life and tight oil seal. However, I know of several people that have hacked together unmatched case halves on two-stoke snowmobiles and lived to tell about it. I have replaced a single case-half on vertically split dirt bikes several times and never had a problem.
Finally, as suggested by a previous post, you could have a good welder repair the broken case upper using a piece cut from a used/junk upper from another bike.

I've got one more request. Would someone mind taking some nice detailed photos of the engine case in this area where the chain broke mine? So I can see what the profile looks like, the general shape, any clearances it might need (sprocket, clutch arm, etc). Hopefully won't be too much of a hassle, but would be super helpful. The higher the resolution the better.
