RZ Project II

#1 Post by S10RZ350 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 4:08 pm

Until I begin final mock up I'll post up some steps and pics along the way.

Front:
'06 GSXR 600 Front end: Sprung and valved for a bike near the weight of the RZ (stock). I also wanted the radially mounted brake calipers. Rather than using a stock black fender I went with CF.

I was lucky enough to find an almost new '06 wheel with rotors and tire. I don't think the bike had 10 miles on it. The '06 wheel is even lighter than the '05 so thats a bonus.

The CF fender was hell to get and took almost 6months of patience. First company sent me garbage that didn't fit. Second one fit great but cost quite a bit more. As usual.. get what you pay for. I still have to get some fender hardware together mainly the hardware to hold the brake lines in place.

The '06 GSXR stem uses a 30mm upper and 30mm lower bearing. Kawasaki tapered roller brarings (SSK100) are the same OD and height as the RZ bearings along with the needed 30mm ID. I had a 10mm spacer made using the original gsxr lower race.
Sorry for the crap pics. I cant find the others.

As far as the rest of the bike:

35mm PWK D carbs.
Stage II port.
Zeeltronic programmable CDI.
Lomas standard mild steel pipes with CF cans high temp coated satin black.
F4i Radiator.
STACK tack/speedo/watertemp/shift light gauge.

Rear end is up in the air. I have an RGV250 rear end ready but am venturing a bit further with an X project. I hope its successful or else I'll be stuck with a hohum rgv banana rear with 150x17 tire.

More updates soon.

Wow Charlie... Heh, you are down with the sickness and there is no relief in sight for you!

Come on man, you are killing us with the "X project". You can't tempt us like that and expect to get away with it. :smt077

That'll be most killer S10 ... may the force be with you in finding a matching rear wheel. Where did you find such a clean, late model setup?

Thanks guys,

Front end was $500 with calipers, axle, and trees. I searched "gsxr forks" on ebay for about 3 months until I found these.
Its HARD to find a like new front wheel for something that is usually driven head first into curbs, trees, cars.. walls. IIRC I paid $220 shipped for the wheel, tire and rotors. Including the CF fender I have about grand into the front end..

I cant talk about project X until I'm sure its going to work. twisted:

All the numbers add up.. which is why I mentioned it.

Full rebuild about 2000 miles ago.

Stage II port by Spec II.
.03 shaved head.
crank trued and welded by scott clough.
new gaskets seals etc.
I also have a set of 1st over cylinders with pv's and oem pistons.

as mentioned before:

35mm pwk "D" carbs.
Zeeltronic programmable cdi
Lomas mild steel pipes h/t coated satin black with cf cans.

It should make enough.
With a single 35mm pwk it was quicker than a few year old Ducati 748 with exhaust etc.

I found a great deal on another '06 GSXR front end so I bought it to replace a few items on the current forks I have. I need the clip ons and one of the fork tubes to replace mine (minor blem). I'll have a spare '06 front end minus the wheel, clipons and fender if anyone is interested.

I also picked up a spare frame to hack/practice widening in an attempt to accept a larger swingarm and max offset sprocket.

Doubt I'll make the show this year. :(

Aye yi yi! OK ... you cut it (thought you broke it with the all thread). Seems to me that you would want to cut the other end so that the swingarm/tire shift would be toward the CL of the engine, requiring less offset on a countershaft sprocket for >150 size tires ... which I imagine is why your doing this.

BTW ... on "The minor blem" ... is that the sticker fade you were talkin about? Did you actually swap components between the 2 sets?

I'm going to cut everything off and replace with some 1x3. The cross tube with the upper shock mount and rear engine mounts is going to be cut off and replaced with a wider piece as well.

I've already spread it enough w/o heat.. but to be sure all goes right, and stays where I need it to, I'm going to spread with heat and insert newly fabbed cross pieces with the engine mounts, upper shock mount and relay arm mount already welded on.

As far as the '06 FE. I did not swap anything. Only took the clipons and controls.

I'll get a better camera from work and try another pic.
