Drew up brackets to mount carbon fiber panels.

I previously cut and tacked in some primitive triangle mounts/gussets to the frame. They didn't look good and the panel holes were too close to the corners, so I chopped them out.

The new brackets are simple, but I want them to look good - so I'm not cutting them by hand. I think water-jet is the way to go, but never had it done before.

Need to find a water-jet place that will cut a small order (about 12 brackets) from .09" 4130.

Please post or PM me if you have info on water-jetting.

Panel bracket drawings sent for a quote.

Need 8, asked for 16 - just in case. :smt003

Water-jet order completed.

16 pieces, about $135 usd, 4130 included.

My contact also made a .dxf file of the bracket, but I can't open it on my phone.

You might be able to import it into OnShape and open it there, but I haven't tried myself.

Wasn't able to, but I tried.

It's okay, the brackets are already being cut.

The machined portion of the rear steering damper mount is done.

Haven't received it yet. Already got the 4130 tubing to make the base of the mount.

I'm gonna wait until the mount is welded in, before taking measurements for the titanium pin.

Got a new idea today. Shirked all responsibilities and went with it.

Designed a one-off kickstarter using CNC cut billet aluminum, TiN coated titanium, and needle roller bearings.

Also designed an aluminum tool to help me get accurate measurements from the OEM kickstarter.

Looks like my crazy jig is going to work for holding the rear steering damper bracket.

Pretty much ready to tack and weld, but I'd like to do some other stuff at the same time.

Having a real problem with the steering lock. Can't figure a way to hold it on the head tube for welding. The placement has to be dead-on because the pin fits snugly on each side of the lock.

Been using wire, but it's not accurate enough and doesn't hold well. Haven't figured a way to clamp it, yet. Right now, trying to find out if a (cylinder) magnet on the inside of the head tube will hold it. Head tube is pretty thick, though.

Heard that the 4130 brackets for the electrical panels are done.

Really hoping they arrive this week.

Would like to get them cut to size and tacked in before the weekend.

Aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber... every ounce counts! [smilie=punk.gif]

Every time I hear a truck this morning, I go running outside. Nothing so far.

The water-jet cut brackets are supposed to arrive today.

Hoping to get 8 brackets trimmed, fitted and tacked in by tonight. We'll see.

Smoker, just went through most of the pages of you Aprilia build this am as I was being lazy. very cool. Only thing missing is complete bike pictures (which I know you don't do)!

I get asked for full bike pics a lot.

I guess I'm just different than most builders. [smilie=dunno.gif]

There's no complete bike, or even a partial bike. I don't keep the completed parts on the bike. I keep them in boxes because I don't want them to get damaged while I'm working on other stuff. After all the parts are done, they need to come off the bike anyway, so the frame can be painted or powder coated.

Right now, this bike is a bare frame with the jig for the steering damper mount on it. That's it. Plus, I'm still welding brackets onto the frame. Easy to understand why I don't want any nice parts around.

I'd be happy to post those kind of pics, if I could.

Water-jet brackets vs. caveman brackets.

Go under the front of the tank, in the 4 corners. Caveman corner to center = 0.625". Water-jet corner to center = 1.250". Still need to cut angles on the ends to fit.

I thought corner brackets would work for the panel under the rear of the tank- but the carb cable adjusters are in the way. So, I'm going to cut and weld 2 brackets together and mount them straight across. Will look better this way because the frame braces on either side go straight across, as well. The brackets go on the center of the tubes, not on top.
