RuZty wrote:Ballpark idea on price? I really like the side cover and the oil pump cover. I reckon someone over there would be willing to offer up a standard stator cover if you offered them a deal on a carbon one. Do you use a UV resistant (non-yellowing) resin?
Hi RuZty,

Long time no hear! hope you are ok?

A rough cost for the Carbon Stator cover is about £140 (ish) so sorry they are not cheap.

Then their are the cost's to make a new Std Yamaha type mold, about 8-9 hours plus materials about £25 - £30 GBP.

I need to look at it a bit more, as I didnt time how long it took to make as it was just for me, as I never intended to make any parts for anyone else. Also I would need to make a few, just to try to recover some of the cost's of making the new mold.
Sorry but I dont mean to sound negative.
Oil pump cover is a standing mold so about £60 GBP. (ish)

I use an Epoxy resin which dose contain UV filters which is designed for the manufacture of laminates such as those used in sail and surfboards which are to remain unpainted, and where a very clear finish is required.
I also clear coat with a 2 pack lacquer which claims to be UV resistant, however if over time it dose slightly yellow its an easy fix, just flat off & relacquer, but then nothing last's forever.

I hope this helps, however I think that these will be far too expensive for most people.

Best regards

Peddro.

Bit of an up-date:-

I have been modifying the swingarm as I wasnt happy with the way it looked, as I wanted a more up to date ie Ducati Moto GP look.

Here are a photos of the swingarm before & after.
I am also now modifying a CBR900 swingarm for a friend.

With regards to "Galvanic corrosion" I have already taken steps to prevent this when I first fitted the carbon fiber insert several months a go.

As for the extra weight, its next to nothing when done correctly, plus none of the worry of a possible failure.

Swingarm will be fitted next week after I have had it lacquered.
Some more photos:-

I do realise that this wont be everyones "cup of tea", but this is now structurally strengthened as we do in the boat industry, rather than just a mere carbon wrap, plus it matches the rest of the bike.

ps. Sorry for spelling.

Best regards

Thanks for the comments.
That was the idea just to be different.

Also this way you can have a different looking swingarm, without all the hassel of buying another swingarm from a breakers (which may be slightly bent?) machining & altering linkages/dog bones ride-height, different shocker, ect, ect. It just a bolt back in job, simples.

As I said, it wont be to everyones tastes.
I will post a photo of it fitted as soon as it's been lacquered, also one of the CBR 900rr Fireblade when its finished.
Modifying each swingarm takes about 1.5 - 2 weeks from start to finish, as its not my day job this can only be done in the evenings at present, however I intend to modify bikes & make carbon parts full time soon.

Best regards.

Peddro ,
Your bike is fantastic :smt007 really good work.....

Now let's discuss again about the std RZ stator cover cost ..... because your quotation is really expensive.
If you observed my 421cc project bike , I know that your carbon stator would look a charm on my bike as I already have carbon front fender & rear huger....

I'd propose if you could accept a group order fm other members to lower the price ??? and help us all out...
What you say ??? How many orders would you want to make your quotation let's say to 50% lower ???

Also to help you out I have an extra standard stator cover which is a little scratched up which I can send to you to use as a mold to make them standard ...... free of charge.

I'm in number one , who else ???

WOW! Looks great mate, really loving your bike and the carbon look.

Id love a carbon cover, but think that to reduce the cost would perhaps be impossible as Peddro (Johnny C) still needs to do the work and spend the hours since there is no machine for this. But I would be in for one (or two) if the costs could be brought down if that helped. :smt001

How come every frigging residential fence in England looks the same? Whoever is selling those is making a fortune. Oh and really nice bike too!

Simply stunning Johnny, you are a very talented man and should be very proud of what you have built :smt001 .

Ever considered making some carbon fibre body parts for the ypvs?

Hi Paul,

Simply stunning Johnny

Thanks for your comments, but was that for the 2012 Pink bike?
the riding position is a bit tough, even for me........

I prefre to build full bikes rather than just make panels.
What you are up against is most people just see a panel & think its carbon fibre, however some parts that are for sale are made with just one layer of carbon backed up with fiberglass & made with much cheaper polyester resin which is a fraction of the cost of epoxy resin, & most people dont care how much it weighs, just the cost ££$$££ and as long as it looks the part they dont care.
I only make panels for customers that want the real deal, all mine are made with epoxy resin & all 100% carbon fibre & some reinforced with carbon-Kevlar.

I am trying to catch up some time that I lost this year by working during the holidays making a full set of molds for (Road) RG500 for a customer in the USA.
Also I am currently building a YZR500 from scratch (plus full set of molds & carbon tank) which has got to be finished for May 2012 so I am very busy.

I have also been asked to develop an Aprilia RS 485

The bad part of all this, is that the "few extra jobs" that I wanted to do to the TZR will now have to wait & probably now wont get done until 2013 never mind as it runs fine anyway, & just with all specials they are never finished are they?............

wishing you all a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Best regards

Johnny C.
