My RZ250 that will be a 350....

PLEASE NOTE:

And then in July 2017 Photobucket came and fucked it all up for everyone...

This build started off with Imageshack hosting the photos, they got greedy and while they continued to host the photos for a while I moved to Photobucket and all was great with the world until they decided we needed to pay $399/yr to post our pics across the net.

So, Thanks photobucket, you trashed this thread and thousands (more like millions!) of other around the world.

IF YOU WANT TO READ THIS THREAD WITH THE PHOTOS AND MY REHASHED TEXTS (BUT NOT THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON THE THREAD), HAVE A LOOK AT MY WEBSITE, 2SMOKED.COM.

---------------------

For those that dont know (not many of you on here I guess)... The RZ is what the colonies called the RD's once they got YPVS, so this is a full size 350 but with smaller jets/passageways in the carbs, 250 barrels and pistons and washers in the exhausts - Ie pretty much what the engine started out as when it was originally designed really, hence the too small crank case volume for the 350... hmm....

Plan was to make it a 350, ie drop on some 350 barrels/head/pistons and up jet the carbs and knock out the washers and its a 350... prefect... sadly like all good plans that was a simplification... more on that later...

It came from a guy about 2hours away who gave up when it blew up (crank) and he got a spare engine but the generator was seized on the crank and he didnt want to pay out anymore and I zipped up to pick it up for cheap in the car. He freaked out as he didnt think it would fit in the car, but ive done this sort of thing before and in it went within 45mins... LOL

The reason we have mostly 250s here was that road tax was and is still, low for 250s, but above that you pay a lot. So the 29L RZ250R came about, its actually 50bhp instead of the 350s 59, so not shabby... unlike my example... eeek...

I paid not much at all for it and no it doesnt go but it is 99.9% complete and there is enough parts in there to build another runner enghine with just a set of new pistons. Ive started work but its a a back burner project, good to have in the garage tho and will form the basis of my second project, more on that later... much later... Im still working on the house at the mo... have been for 4months!

His pic - mocked up panels on the frame... it is complete just the rest of the parts are loose.

What it will one day be like.... not anytime soon thats for sure....

Well I say that, but Ive bought some R6 forks (RWU not USD) and FZR rear end that will go on so it will look standard but be a bit tidier... perhaps LOL...

My parts are gathering... more later...

i think the less you pay for a strip down project the better because eventually everything will be repaired or replaced or upgraded, great start point for what you are going to achieve, nice packing in the car i bet you are good at fiddle sticks

started cleaning up my cylinders are the rebore and painted them with VHT gloss black. The whole engine will be that colour. Here they are cleaned up after paint with the new PVs and all seals fitted.

Cleaned up a set of new TSS reed cages and gapped the reeds

Transmission comes apart

Inside it was in good nick with no real wear on anything but the kickstart idler gear...

So far the parts bought....

- set of 350 barrels, which are now re-bored
- new pistons
- 350 head
- full set of uprated bearings for the engine
- new PVs, and all new seals
- new engine seals and gaskets
- new clutch plates
- set of Kenny pipes
- Y boot and filter
- lots of small items like bolts and nuts etc.

Here are the Stainless TSA (Kenny) pipes with carbon cans

The one you painted is the same as the fairing subframe assembly used on the 86-90 Canadian models (same as my avatar pic). I just checked it againt a photo of mine and it's identical.

Ok... cheers for that. Sadly I have an 85... bugger! So will this fit the upper faring of the 85 I wonder... I always thought the upper fairings were identical on all years of fully faired bikes, incl the 500.... :smt017

LOL 2011... hmm youre an optomist! LOL. Well Im still waiting on my top fairing and then need to talk to painters... hmm...

They arent in the pick but there are springs, but I will say that the flanged header is very tight on the pipe so i dont expect too many (if any) leaks etc.

Im slowly stripping and cleaning / painting bits so when I do get the frame done it should be quite quick to build it all back up. :smt001

oi poof put the think back as a roller and fit the pipes and tell me how you go...haha just kidding but i am having a little trouble with the pipes fitting at the moment, very very neat fit, at the moment im trying to think of ways to apply a decent force on the lead-in pipe of header pipe to slot the pipe right onto the flange, they look like they will fit perfect once fully on, but im having difficulty with actually getting them properly ON hahaha

Bugger... Benny I was asking Kenny about if these pipes will fit a stroker motor and he didnt know, but from what youve said it seems like they probably wont if they are a tight fit on standard barrels...

Sadly It would be a bit of work to whack the lot back together as my engine is in bits and the brackets and bolts are all in boxes, sorry mate.

The first year for the fully faired bikes here was 85 and I believe it used exactly the same fairing subframe.

The other one you have looks interesting. Is it OEM or a locally manufactured version of the original?
