Thanks, Bngt. How ignorant I am. The black coating was so uneven I thought it just was shitte.
Under which conditions could they stick? Not on full throttle, please

Hellgate, I got the blasting gun through eBay. It is named BGS.
Do a search under "Sandstrahl Pistole" and you'll find more models.

Ricino,

I like where you are heading with your project. Your techniques look good and your overall approach is professional. Keep up the good work.

Also, you will definitely spend most of your time cleaning bits. It takes forever, but it pays off.

Good job.

It might just be an urban legend but I have heard (from a bloke at the pub) that the coating is needed and for sure in all instances it stuck on full throttle.

They all look the same with uneven coating and worn down areas but seems to work anyhow. I am just passing on unverified information, it is after all the internet you know.

Great project by the way. I'll follow it closely.

Bits&Pieces

#19 Post by Ricino » Fri Sep 06, 2013 7:16 am

Hi you all,

It has been a busy summer with the children, so I´m still working on the engine´s front mounts.
During the last months I´ve been receiving some shipments from several parts of the globe.
Most of the decisions were made after lots of reading found in this great forum :smt039 Thank you all!

- Expansion chambers made by TSA (Kenny in UK) after the ones made for forum´s member TZR350. Kenny is a great guy to deal with, always very responsive.
I´ll finish them here to carefully choose the desired stinger-silencer´s angle and length (header flanges are spring-type)
- Silencers sourced from MFactoryWest (TZMike) A real Yamaha enthusiast based in California.
- All engine bearings sourced by TSS Australia (he doesn´t carry SKF by the time). Clutch bushing sourced by Legend Motorcycles UK)
- 50ºC thermostat and spacer (2nd pic) sourced from SRD (Sheridan Racing). Brian S is a forum member and a pleasure to deal with; so is how I found out about this piece.
- Oil pump blanking kit from Yambits (among some more small bits like washers, nuts...)
- Dynatek coil, sourced from eBay UK (intended for the stock ignition)
- Radial 16 mm. front brake master by Brembo (eBay, long time ago)

Image

- Billet head (blingy piece of jewelry), 795 pistons, complete engine seals, cyl base gaskets, billet YPVS coupler, pancake clutch pusher, engine dampers and NGKs by Roger @ Wicked Motorsports.
Billet head has special domes intended for pistons protusion into the head.
- TDR reeds ( Tony Doukas Racing )
- Stroker crank +4 mm & 115 rod, silver little end bearings, Billet powervalves for 1UA barrels and intake manifolds from Motorcycle Legends. They might source from TSS Australia as they use the very same pictures as Steve´s web.
- YPVS bushings (OEM) from eBay. The seller has some OEM and NOS Yamaha spares at reasonable prices
- D.I.D chain from a local store. 520ERM2 has been discontinued. A really good compromise between lightness and resistance. Non O-ring.

Engine will be 391 cc.

This is going to be a nice bike - especially with all those cool bits and building parts by hand.

Keep at it. It's going to turn out beautiful.

Looking good so far , you've got a nice collection of go-faster parts there :)

Have you got any pictures of the bike from the side ? the bit I'm interested in is the engine position in relation to the frame rails

Thank you for the kind words, this encourages me to continue...

Paul, here are the pics you requested. Engine is shown in its final position, just have to fabricate the front mounts.
I´m not sure yet if I´m going to fabricate a craddle, or some different mounts. The distance between the cases and the front portion of the swingarm is aprox 1 centimeter. Less than that would make the clutch cover very difficult to service without removing the whole engine.

Amazing, this project has showed me the light in tunnel of my rz350 project!
Keep posting those pictures and great description. Love it!

Question, where did you find the tank?

Thanks, Kenny. I´d like to know in which way has this thread been helpful to you...?

I got the 4DL tank from eBay (Germany) and it included the brackets and the peatcock. It is made of plastic, by Acerbis.

Nice update! Looks great! Thank you for the info!

Well your project gave me such inspiration to develope my stock rz350 to a look alike tz/tzr350 hybrid.

Great details and description on the development of the bike.

Hi,
put your engine 3 mm from your swingarm
Image

and remove some mass; make the negative print of your clutch cover on the frame, using this kind of tool (I use it on paddock, and save some ride sessions for a lot of guys :smt033 )
Image
The best is to weld a light and simple cradle as my following picture...

I can remove my cylinders without any problems, engine in frame. The YPVS head, is just licking the frame when I remove it...
goodluck, you won't be disappointed, the bike is awesome!!!I beat old 350 TZ, and some 4DP 250's :smt040

Hey ricino looking very very good. Unfortunately I hada little accident on mine in may that put me in hospital for 3 days. It had a gearbox failure and through me off the high side but I bounce very well and live to tell the tail.
The bike for some reason was not too bad. Just light scuffs to the fairing and the usual missing indicators, ,mirror.
So im now changing a few things on it. Im going to put fuel injection on it and at the moment im sourcing all the parts to do this. Then r6 front forks wheels ect and swingarm and rear wheel and im even changing the tank.
Other mods are engine mounting as mines not the best so im going to have them changed to alloy.
