Re: Yamaha SZR 660 conversion to 350 YPVS - ( TZ250 replica
Hello, Rob
Too bad to read those scary news, but glad to know you're ready to fix things and that you intend to arrange all those nice mods. It would also be nice if you increased the silencers' angle; those TSA pipes will look much better. I've been designing some new front mounts, not ready though. Will post some pics with the mockup, before cutting some alloy plates. You're lucky to own a 4DL, it is a much easier base to work with than the very asymmetrical SZR (4SU)
I'll be very interested to follow your build thread, so please keep us informed!
Best wishes,
Patricio

Want some more pictures on the chassi build please :)
How much different is the SZR and TZR frame?

The szr frame is a bit wider by around 20mm and has mounts that are in the way so they are usually cut off.
Ricino im having the exhausts altered too to match the angle of the subframe fairing.

Glad you´re taking the crash as an opportunity.
Here are some pics of the front mounts design (remember that the rear mount is already finished).
Lots of eyeballing, testing, measuring and so on. Very challenging and enjoyable build!
It is a fully manual process, first using thick coloured paper and then some kind of light cardboard made of two sheets of paper and a foam core. It is a nice material to mock up the future alloy plates, because it is rigid, easy to cut, and it has the same thickness as the final plates (5 mm.)
I´m not going to weld the mounts straight onto the frame. First I´m going to cut some smaller twin plates (one pair for each mount), then will weld them to the frame as a base to fasten the bigger plates with screws and bolts (thus working as a very rigid sandwich). This way the engine will be easier to be serviced, and also makes things easier for me to precisely position the engine in its final place and angle.

Wow great job! Really! But there looks to be small space for carb adjustments? :)
Lile idea of the mountings! Great work and keep them pictures posted!

I like how you are doing the mounts. Very professional looking.
If you have trouble with space to make carb adjustments, you can build some special tools ;) 'If there is will - there is a way'
I'm watching with a lot of interest. Keep up the good work my friend.

Thanks, guys!
I might drill some holes on the left mount for carb adjustments and also for the choke (installing an extension for the choke actuator, too)

Ricino I may have a pair of kr1s carbs, pod filters, choke cables, choke lever and tick over cables from my bike if my fuel injection goes to plan but no for a few months. Let me know if your interested.

Hello K.B. ,
Thanks for your interest and sorry it took me three months to answer, but for several reasons I had to put aside the project, until now.
Today I met a good friend who just started a project like mine, and we will work together to join forces in order to find some technical solutions and to make them come true. So, I hope to have this thread updated more often from now on!
PS. It is nice to see all the progress throughout the forum, as well as the new ones that have arrived.

Hi Guy's,
My next project (when I get to it!) will be using the SZR rolling chassis and 350 motor that I have so look forward to see'ing your progress and look for tips
I'm still at the collecting bit's stage but see you have twin disc's Kenny, what bike does the extra calliper come from?

Very inspiring.
I might have to do something similar. Kenny, are you planning for having these fairings as well? Do you know where to source them from?
I just had to repeat this picture!
