Public Reactions riding the 2 stroke?

#1 Post by Forzfed » Sun Aug 07, 2016 7:28 pm

Let's hear some of your stories guys/gals! I almost always get looks or comments when on my bike. Just this morning a father and son in a truck rolled down their windows and gave me the thumbs up. I've had people ask me if the bike was a 2 stroke. I've had one guy come and check my bike out when I was at a coffee shop and ask me about it. Seen another guy pull right up to it in his car and eye it up. And of course the sound makes many people look! :smt023

For the short time that I've had my bike on the road - I get the thumbs up most places I go. The people that aren't from the 'era' eyeball my bike hard trying to figure out WTF it is and why it's on fire (smoking).

The guys from the era always yell RD or RZ while giving me 2 thumbs up.

My 4 stroke buddy's hate me. Every coffee shop we come out of, there is always someone looking at my bike (and ignoring a beautiful R1, GSXR, etc). It's always the old guys like me, that are looking at it. Brings most of us old guys back to their youth. My buddies are 'what's with that high powered sewing machine?' It's like a magnet. Lol.

I have a neighbour of 62 years and saw mine sitting in the driveway. He started asking my gf about it. She was doing the ya I think so stuff. He was asking RZ? Yup. Are you looking to sell it? Nope. Okay. LoL

Peter has many of these stories. His wife gets pissed because everyone ignores her beautifully restored RZ and comments on his BEAUTIFULLY restored '81 coloured RD/LC.

Seriouslly all this happens regularly, guys look awestruck and stop in their tracks, neckbend, slow their cars , follow me until I stop, Its truly a yearning desire in their eyes, as if they've just seen their 1st love from their youth, still looking as young, soft, toned & beautiful as she did at 19 yrs old.
Without fail everytime its in the driveway, at a minimum someone at least slows down.
My neighbor has alot of Harleys and friends..often when a new guy visits they all come over and look at the bikes, with someone always saying the same thing " Man I had one of those brand new, I loved that bike".
Just going for a ride always produces a smile, thumbs up, congratulations, even had a guy and his wife clap once. Its just one of those things, that takes people back in time, to good times. And these bikes are rare , during normal commuting (not including bike hangouts or shows) I've viewed 3 RDs or RZs in 12 years. Thats quite rare in Califonia.
Looking back people have always liked the RDs & RZ even when new they were instant cult bikes, I still have friends today that I met due to. riding my RZ in 1985, How can one beat that? You cant thats why at least 1 RZ or RD stays with me running or not. It is.... "The Bike".

There certainlly are folks whom dont appreciate the fuc#ing smoke and high pitched noise of expansion chambers at redline, but thats okay..I dont like it either..its as annoying as straight pipes Harleys, but thats the way it is when I'm riding them Im not on the reciving end, so no big deal.
No one ever says anything negative except younger guys & girls, usually squids on a GSXR or R1, I dont care then either as their generally just young & dumb, most of us were that way once as well.
But as a rule, if you want to envoke a smile or make youself & someone feel good...just go for a ride!
Smiles will follow!

I get someone stopping me at work pretty much every week. Anyone whoever tells me they used to have one invariably wishes they had kept it. Everyone else just wonders who the A-hole is with the smelly noisy motorcycle that goes too fast.

I'm brand new to the site, and as I was bringing the two '85 RZ's I bought and just picked up home in the back of my pickup truck, I had a couple semi-truck drivers give a honk and wave, and a guy pass me in his car throwing the thumb's up out the window. Big smiles.
I'll soon be asking you guys LOTS of questions about the how-to and how-much type of stuff. Great site.

I got off a speeding ticket in 1992 when I was 19 years old because the cop said he had a 1977 RD400 back in the day and was licking his chops over 1980 Daytona Special RD400. We chatted for about 20min. Lol

ALL THE TIME.

Here in Atlanta, long ago RZs were popular track bikes. But now the R1s, GSXRs, Ducatis, and customs rule the streets. Here I come with so much racket (this bike is incapable of cruising) that people turn to say WTF almost daily. I've had guys rush up looking like they are going road-rage just to give the thumbs up. Dudes have yelled "Kenny Roberts!" from the sidewalks. When parked dudes will stand there and wait until I kick it over and ask me what kind of 2T oil I use while smelling the smoke. The RZ is really a hero!

I think the best is when you get the younger generation thinking they can pull from you because you only have a 350. Then they are in shock saying but you only have 350cc, and you have to explain, it is a 2 stroke!
