Went Super Motard racing today.

#1 Post by hondaror » Mon Apr 24, 2017 1:47 am

I had my first race of this century today. Retired 28 1/2 years ago from amature racing to get married and raise a family. A very kind friend lent two mutual friends a KTM 450 to contest. Fortunately my teammate was a rather quick riding individual. I did not slow us down too much. We finished the endurance race in second. To podium was amazing. The experience was a treat, a real gift. The best part for me was the presence of my son. He's 25, so he never saw the old dude race. Just wanted to share this with all of you great forum members. Grumpy Lui Racing has a smidge of cred.

Over here it's mostly old farts riding.
On a trackday last year I picked the medium group as I've never been on that track before.
Turned out my race bike was too loud for the tracks noise limits, so I had to slow down at the two straights.
The whole day only one guy overtook me and that was right in the first 5 mins where I was still orienting where to go. Even worse: one guy approached me afterwards and complained I'd have been overtaking him too fast at an unexpected location. At least I didn't look like Smoker after the discussion :-)
Consequence for this year: will take the VTR with stock exhausts & booked the fast group hoping for less wimps there ...

(PS: In June I'll celebrate my 50'th birthday)

Thanks guys. I have pics. Will try to get them up.

I forgot to mention, crashed in the dirt in practice. Separated my left shoulder, so I raced with the injury. The dirt was the toughest part, due to the separation.

My son Jeff is doing well. Reclaimed his drivers licence and is driving his right hand drive Subaru Lancer B4. He's had the gas pedal moved for his left foot. He's busy with school, but told me he's starting to walk around more. He's in very good spirits and told me he'd like to give the Super Motard a shot if he gets to ride again. He really enjoyed watching us. I told him, with his back pinned to just think about Motard or GP. He doesn't need the dangers of the dirt to crash in. He really should not ride at all. Too risky under his conditions.

Hey!! I resemble that remark. :smt003

Took this pic yesterday. Keep in mind, I'm well older than you.

No problems getting it up! :smt003

Seriously, I just posted it the same as all my pics.

I use Photobucket. Copied and pasted the image URL (in-between the img icons).

EDIT: I don't think you are using the image URL.

Thank you Smoker. Now I'm able to update my threads with pics.

My buddy who lent us the bike rides with #93, same as I used to. I now have my CMA licence and will be riding this year with #3. The slicks were so sticky, and that 450, wow torque, fast. It was such a blast.

Pics at the top.

Here's the hardware. Lol.
The Alberta Mini Roadracing Association runs on a go cart track. The Super Motard guys are the big pains in the back sides, as we leave a little trail of dirt on the tracks' reentry that has to be swept up after the event.

In Germany we have the saying "Pokal oder Spital", which means trophy or hospital.
Didn't know it can be "and" :-)
BTW: Kart tracks are my favourite with the RD. Full fun, low cost, low risk of injury.
That's the nearest (1:15 h from my place): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V1PvHMkx4Y4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

@Smoker: That looks much better now without the bruises 'n blood!
