Flinders Rangers South Australia

#1 Post by South_Oz » Sun Jul 02, 2017 9:04 pm

Had a 4 day w/end last week so took the wife for a ride. We spent the 4 days riding around the Flinders Rangers. Great scenery and roads/tracks.

Stopped for a beer at the Lyndhurst Pub.

Our camps were pretty basic but fun.

A bit more.

Stopped and made some lunch.

I did a bit of reading and you tubing before we left as this was the first time we had ventured off road on the GS fully loaded. Seems that if you start to get into trouble in sandy stuff or shale, both of witch there was plenty off, you just hit the throttle and it will magically straighten up and get you through. Yeh right I thought. Well im here to tell you that that works. After a few "oh shit" moments I gave it a try and yep it all true.
We plan on doing a lot more while we can. Sitting round a camp fire with a few beers and a bottle of port isnt a bad way of spending a w/end.

wow that looks great Dave!

Have to ask as its 7deg here in Sydney at the mo, what temp was it overnight? tenting does sound 'cold', brrr...

'If in doubt, gas it' has always been the mantra of the off road boys, its saved me countless times tho I hate it as its counter intuitive still to me. the other trick is to look where you want to go, not at the obstacle at your front wheel. Thats one many road and race guys also use, but it really works off road.

hmm, Port is genius for this kind of trip! much easier to carry on a bike Id think than beer that gets warm and fizzes up due to teh bumps, plus takes up too much room. :)

Hey Jon, got down to 2 deg at night. We took our best sleeping bag and a tarp, no tent this time just to give it a try.

Yep on the port, we picked up a six pack and ice at Lyndhurst for the first night and took a cpl of bottles of port for the rest. Lucky the GS can carry a big payload.

I guess 2 deg at night have one big advantage:
No snakes, scorpions, mosquitos and other nuisances around...

Short vid of one of the rides. Guy with the van on nearly wipes us out when he starts to turn at the bottom of the hill.
