I opened a Flickr account but can't seem to get the pics to show up by copying the URL to the Forum. I hate PB for screwing everything up!! Anyone have any suggestions to get Flickr Pics up?

Did you see the "how to" on the RDLCRAZY Forum ?

So you have got the photos already loaded onto flickr ready to go ?

Pics will be in PHOTOSTREAM

Click the pic you want

then at the bottom right of the screen is an ARROW ICON

Click the arrow and the codes come up highlighted in blue

Cut and paste then Bingo !

I have basically stopped posting photos online when I saw one of my images used on a blog (saying it was his image) of someone who I didn't know. He refused to remove it and I don't have the time or funds to fight him in court. Photobucket hijacking the 'net helped clear any access to them.

When you cut and paste the code, it is vey long and what I do is find the bit url][url together

Everything after the first url] you don't need so I click between the url][url and space it , so url] [url

Then you highlight the last section and delete
That way you keep the image and don't have half the code left on the screen

I that makes any sense !

That pic is from the mid 80's !!!!

https://flic.kr/p/2111znj" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When I select the arro in the Flickr app, this is the URL it gives me. No large code and I have tried to post it with and without the Forums URL button.

Don't know what is going on?

I'm in the UK if that makes any difference but if I try and click on my pic above, it won't take me into my flickr account but will if I do it on a UK forum

Usuallly you'd not use the url tag, but the [img] one.
But it doesn't work with the above link ...

- Can we host our own pictures?
I assume that we “can”. Lots of websites are doing it.
I guess the question should be, “Do we want to host our own pictures”?
Is it worth the time, effort and money?

- What’s involved in setting it up?
Would we need Hardware, Software, More bandwidth, Programmers and people to set everything up and make it work?
Can we limit the file size so that it doesn’t slow down the Forum?
I haven’t got a clue.

- How much would it cost?
Since I don’t know what involved in setting it up, it’s impossible to guess how much it would cost.

- Who pays for this new service?
My thoughts are that it would be a user pay system.
If you want to post pictures on the forum, it will cost you x amount of $ per year.
At the moment it’s hard to guess what x amount might be, because I have no idea what involved in making this happen.

I don't know if it reasonable or not, but number that I would be comfortable with is in the range of $15 to $25 per year.
About 1 hours pay for the majority of forum members.

But, if 1000 forum members said, “Ya, I’m in”, then it might cost everyone $5.00/year.
If there are only 10 members interested, then it would cost a lot more.

- Why would I want to pay to host my pictures here?
I’ve posted 2000 pictures on this forum using Photobucket.
Only half of them are still relevant, but even moving half of them to a new hosting site would take a lot of time.
I’m reluctant to move all these pics to another free picture hosting site, because that site could decide to change their policy at any time, and start charging $400 or $500 for their services.

I could get my own website and host my own pictures, but when I die and no one pays the bill for the website, then all the pictures are gone again.

If my pictures are hosted on this site, I won’t have to worry about moving them again, or having them held for ransom, and they’ll be here as long as the RZ/RD site exists.

So, do we want to host our own pictures?
How much would it cost?
Is anybody interested?

JonW seems to have a bit of knowledge in this area, so it would be nice to hear his opinions.

RZTom is the man in charge, so his input is essential.
I sent him a PM and asked him so give us his thoughts.

Thoughts?
